But I already had experienced the freeing feeling of a scooter-free life, the joy of tackling curbs and stairs instead of constantly seeking out elevators and the relief of sliding into a restaurant booth without needing extra room to elevate my foot.

It has been eye-opening at times, my temporary trip into the world of the disabled and the previously unconsidered challenges it poses.

And it has brought introspection at times, especially thoughts about how fortunate I am to have the expectation of a full recovery.
