Chrysler Unveils "Imported From Detroit" Workwear with Carhartt

The Chrysler brand and Carhartt this week launched a limited-edition "Imported From Detroit" work wear collection that pays homage to the spirit of the Motor City, and serves as yet another reminder of the effectiveness of Chrysler's turnaround branding campaign sparked by the 2011 Super Bowl commercial featuring Eminem.

Debuting at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, the collection includes shirts, jackets and pants that are individually hand-numbered, 100-percent Made-in-America, and reflect iconic Carhartt styles with exclusive design detailing such as blacked-out hardware and leather brand labels.Massive range of Castelli Cycling clothing and Castelli clothing accessories available .

"The pairing of the Chrysler brand and Carhartt is another example of how we are continuing to champion the energy created from the 'Imported From Detroit' campaign," stated Saad Chehab, president and CEO of the Chrysler brand. "Carhartt shares Chrysler's respect and appreciation for hard-working Americans."

Bethany Church coat drive under way

The Bethany Covenant Church is collecting men's winter coats for recently released prisoners, part of the church's outreach work with Christian Aftercare Ministry.

“Christian Aftercare Ministry ministers to offenders and ex-offenders just getting out of prison,” said Debbie Corriveau, who sits on the CAM board.Where to shop chanel bags online? “It meets their physical and spiritual needs by providing clothing, spiritual counseling, maybe housing, maybe helping them get IDs, helping them find jobs.”

Though the drive is calling for jackets, they are also accepting all types of men's clothing and monetary donations. Currently CAM is seeking kitchen tables, chairs,The Whole Specialized Cycling Team is a non-profit Junior and U-23 development program. small bureaus, twin beds and men's bicycles.

“Not so much in these months, but we have a great need for men's bicycles, we give those out like crazy,” Corriveau said.

Originally located in Manchester, Bethany Covenant is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church, a global denomination founded by Swedish immigrants in 1885. Corriveau, who's been a member of the church for 22 years, said outreach work is part of the church's mission.

“(We are) supposed to be the hands and feet of Christ, reaching out to those in need,” she said. “And certainly these people are coming out of jail or prison with absolutely nothing,Superb range of Garmin Cycling products at Wiggle, the online cycle, run, swim & tri shop. just the clothes on their backs, and they need a lot of support to keep them from reentering the system.”

Bethany Covenant is involved with various outreach initiatives, including New Life Home for Women and Children, New Horizons food pantry and shelter, Operation Christmas Child, Care Net Pregnancy Center, the Salvation Army and New England Seafarers Mission.

“I think it's just trying to reach as many people as possible in different areas of need,” Corriveau said.

Christian Aftercare Ministries, a Manchester-based nonprofit that serves former prisoners living in Hillsborough County, was formed 15 years ago by a group of volunteers working in the prison ministry. Services include skills counseling, job development, employment services, needs based assistance and religious spiritual guidance. They also help with addiction, referrals to other services and pre-release counseling.

Up Close and Personal in Jerusalem

When the incoming missile attack siren sounded I was paralyzed. Some 50 feet from the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, the world's holiest site for Jews, I was in the middle of a mass stampede of men, clutching their various religious possessions, Bibles, prayer shawls and many-colored kipas on their heads, rushing by me at high speed.

From somewhere a warning in Hebrew boomed through the wide plaza in front of the Wall, its incomprehensible message (to me) sounding the alarm. I started to ask frantically "do you speak English?" From fast negative shakes of the head to the panicked looks of people trying to madly rush away, I could not get an answer or really understand what was happening.

Finally I approached a group of four kids, teenagers who had come for Friday prayers. I asked the first, "do you speak English"? He said no. His friend, however, looked at me as if I were an alien, wearing a white yarmulke given to me by a guard at the entry to the holy site,Massive range of Castelli Cycling clothing and Castelli clothing accessories available . my bright red wind-breaker open and flapping in the cool breeze, and he said "Hamas, boom, boom."

But even then my brain did not process what was going on. While most people were running away from the Wall, towards what I later learned are the bomb shelters in the colonnade that lines one side of the wide plaza, another group of men, in what I can only interpret as defiance, were running towards the Wall. Across the Jerusalem-stone lined ground, a cacophony of sirens, disembodied ominous warnings through loudspeakers, people screaming and religious men chanting their prayers,Women's Canada Goose Solaris Parka make a great warm, dry and comfortable and above all. reverberated under, over and through me.

But, still, some very American part of me stood still in the middle of the maelstrom. In retrospect, my flight instincts have been severely dulled by the relative placid existence of living in a country like the United States, a country for which for millions of people terrorism is but an abstraction.

And then the dam broke. The plaza before the Wailing Wall is divided by perpendicular barriers separating the men from the women. Suddenly the barrier was opened by Israeli soldiers, and a similar stampede of women, their heads covered with black, blue, white and many other colored scarfs, rushed forward. They ran in my direction, many with children in their arms or being pulled by their hands, towards the shelters.

A strangely calm line of Israeli soldiers, both men and women carrying automatic weapons and dressed in deep olive colored uniforms, encouraged the movement of everyone still standing in the open space by forming a fast moving line, sweeping across and urging us towards the shelters.

I joined the river of humanity that was now flowing away from the Wall and entered the bomb shelter under an arch that was the opening to a long tunnel, now filled with people. Having been one of the last people to reach the shelter, I stood at the entrance, not inside and not outside.

Finally a voice in English announced, "This is the Israeli Police. The siren you're hearing," and here I was sure the man speaking would say "has been a drill," like the voice that comes through your TV set when the emergency broadcasting system beep is piped through your television.

"This is the Israeli Police. The siren you're hearing is real. Take cover."

Immediately to my left, a young woman wearing a light-blue scarf on her head clutched a baby, a few months old judging by his little body, while she weeped and closed her eyes. Behind me, I could see people crowded into the shelter, standing close to each other like passengers in the New York subway at rush hour. Men and women rushing by me and pushing behind me into the shelter, would shout names, frantically looking for their spouse or child or friend that had been separated during the mass exodus from the plaza.

Another warning, "This is the Israeli Police. The siren you're hearing is real.Where to shop chanel bags online? Take cover." A group of young people, standing under a nearby arch started singing -- I don't know what was the song, but the tone was unmistakable -- defiance. Further down from the arch that sheltered me, there was a regrouping of black-clad men, their beards long and prayer shawls over their heads, as they began the rhythmic rocking of Jewish prayer.

A woman collapsed a few feet from me -- a panic attack perhaps -- and she was immediately surrounded by a group of strangers, picking her up and speaking to her, one woman put a bottle of water to her lips, even as they carried her into one of the shelters.

Israeli soldiers seemed to be everywhere, both watching the crowd and scanning the plaza for stragglers or perhaps some terrorist that would punctuate the night by detonating a suicide-bomb.

And then, as quickly as it all began, the siren stopped. For a moment all I could hear was the sound of both men and women crying, children who had been frightened into hysteria being comforted by their fathers and mothers, the singers sang louder and shook their fists at the sky. The men praying continued their rocking prayers, seemingly in a trance.

Soldiers started to wave at us to come out of the shelter. Speaking in Hebrew words I could not understand, calmly and gesturing with their hands for us to move back into the open plaza. Within a few minutes, the area immediately in from of the Wailing Wall was full of men praying, some covered with shawls and wearing 19th century style long black coats,The Whole Specialized Cycling Team is a non-profit Junior and U-23 development program. others in modern clothes, their kipa and Bibles as the symbols of reverence.

Like the moment when the siren started, I stood motionless as thousands of people flowed across the plaza, the voices of thousands merging together, sharing shock, fear, relief with their companions.

My last memory of that night was the moment a friend found me -- I was standing on a step near the arch of the bomb shelter. He had frantically been searching for me among the thousands of people at the Wall after we got separated during the attack.

Fortified by a stiff whiskey, or two, he later told me that he only saw me in the chaotic crowd of thousands because I was wearing a red jacket, my protection from the crisp air of the early Jerusalem winter night.

The two Hamas rockets that triggered the siren missed Jerusalem, landing very near a Palestinian village in the West Bank,Superb range of Garmin Cycling products at Wiggle, the online cycle, run, swim & tri shop. just over the border. Reportedly, no one was hurt.

Newswomen now make statements with colorful attire, not power suits

Dresses dangled on the racks at Neiman's and Saks and all Norah O'Donnell needed was a suit.

Earlier this year, when the veteran news anchor was scouring stores for a suit jacket to wear for her "CBS This Morning" publicity photo, she discovered what her viewers have known for years: The women's blazer is disappearing — from department stores and network news broadcasts.

"I couldn't find a nice suit jacket that wasn't black,This is my review of my Canada Goose Trillium Parka and how it ." O'Donnell said. "You used to find all kinds in blues and hot pinks. They stopped making them. That's when I thought, what's changed?"

For her head shot, O'Donnell, 38, ended up choosing a six-year-old navy Giorgio Armani blazer out of her closet, one she rarely wears except when interviewing presidents or heads of state. Like so many working women in the news media and other professions, O'Donnell hasn't bought a suit in years, a surprising admission given that the newswoman spent her 20s wearing suits so she "could be taken seriously." The same can be said of seasoned anchors such as Diane Sawyer and Andrea Mitchell, who rarely graced the screen in the 1980s and '90s without lapels shielding their chests.

For decades, the suit jacket transformed women into workers. With jackets required for entrance at male-dominated clubs and boardrooms, women bundled up their breasts to blend into a professional culture that predated their arrival. But in recent years, even as men continued to assume corporate uniforms of suits and ties,Wholesale and Discount LIVESTRONG Cycling jersey online ! newswomen — one of the last vestiges of female suit wearers — have resoundingly dismissed them from their closets.Canada Goose offers the Men's HyBridge Jacket in men's and women's styles. They now flank themselves in bright sleeveless sheath dresses and stiletto heels, renouncing the once hard-and-fast edicts of television news: no bare legs, no long hair, no feminine distractions from the news. The revision of the female anchor's dress code happened swiftly and broadly on network and cable television. And if newswomen are the most visible barometers of workplace fashion, the women's suit may one day go the way of the petticoat.Welcome to buy Canada Goose Chateau Parka Men from Cheap Chateau Parka, which can keep out the snow and the cold wind.

"Ten years ago, professional dress meant a Talbots suit for women," said Dave Smith, president of SmithGeiger, a market research firm that consults with news networks. "What's appropriate for female talent on television has evolved because of familiarity. The audience has equal regard for female and male anchors. It's given women far more liberty to be feminine."

O'Donnell agrees: "There has been an evolution of women's wear on television. Part of that is the changing times, but it's also because there are more women in media who feel comfortable about what they want to wear."

That theory of empowerment rings true for many newswomen.Cheap Canada Goose Manitoba Jacket sale with beautiful design in our cheap canada goose online store! They've finally laid claim to the anchor's chair and can let their hair down or, at least, grow it past their shoulders. Even Sawyer and Mitchell have adopted subtle changes in wardrobe. Sawyer sometimes wears crisp black blouses sans jacket while anchoring the evening news. Mitchell often prefers pastel, cap-sleeved shells for her afternoon show on MSNBC.

But skeptics find ulterior motives in the modern newswoman image, one that's celebrated in men's magazines and YouTube tributes to the legs of NBC's "Today." Skin sells, and media are more competitive than ever: Are networks encouraging lower necklines and higher hemlines to boost ratings?

Some morning show hosts have commented on network edicts regarding dress. Before her departure from "Today," Ann Curry told Ladies' Home Journal that executives encouraged her to wear "ridiculously high-heel shoes." Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," found that executives tried to control her wardrobe when she transitioned into morning television.

"When 'Morning Joe' started, I was a hostage to fashion by network executives and stylists, who thought they knew what I should wear," Brzezinski said, calling the clothes "short, skimpy, tight. They were not me and not Washington."

It was only when she went on the road with the show during the 2008 primary season that she began choosing her own clothing, which then included J.Crew blouses and casual separates.

"Joe [Scarborough] said, 'That's the look you want to hit with this show. You want to be you,' which is kind of Washington, comfortable, not very showy. My style's evolved over the years, but it came from shedding the culture of TV news that I used to try and compete in."

YouTube HOF: Holiday Commercial-ism

Michael Weinreb: I do not know how many tri-state area children turned to a life of street-corner violence and petty crime because of the trauma brought on by Crazy Eddie commercials. All I know is that I was 5 years old when my parents moved me away from New York (presumably for this very reason), and these ads are so deeply burrowed into my subconscious that I cannot dissociate Santa Claus from the skeeviest parts of Breaking Bad.

Andy Greenwald: Growing up, no East Coast Christmas was complete without being hollered at by Crazy Eddie. (Actually, no summer was complete either, as Eddie was instrumental in introducing the controversial "Christmas in August" sale event, too.) In a golden era of local advertising, Eddie Antar was both the king and the jester, the sort of manic capitalist who could make you feel guilty for not buying a digital watch for that special someone, even if you were only in second grade. The Canada Goose Chilliwack Parka are bright and very easy to spot in the snow or anywhere you might be! In real life, Eddie wasn't crazy, but he wasn't all there, either: From the moment the company was founded in the pre-artisanal Brooklyn of 1971, it was rife with fraud. At one point, Eddie was funneling millions of dollars into Israeli banks, which promptly wired the bills to Panama. In the end, the craziest thing Eddie ever did wasn't the deep discount on the reel-to-reel player. It was cheating on Debbie, his high school–sweetheart wife,This is my review of my Canada Goose Trillium Parka and how it . with another woman named Debbie. (They were caught, in flagrante digital licto, by OG Debbie on New Year's Eve. Let's hope no one was wearing the Santa hat.) Anyway, Eddie was eventually convicted, fled to Tel Aviv under a fake passport, was arrested and extradited, and spent most of the '90s behind bars. My favorite thing about Eddie Antar — huckster, con man, over-rater of calculators — was that despite his unstoppable, vaguely terrifying love of Christmas, he probably never had a Crazy Christmas Tree in his Crazy Condo. Crazy Eddie was Jewish.

Mark Lisanti: The 1980s were a simpler time. Back then, a prodigal, letterman-jacket-clad son could slip quietly into the house, arms laden with presents for his loving family, and crack open a can of delicious Folgers with an adoring sister, and the only suspicions aroused were those of the slumbering parents, who thought Santa might have arrived early to fill their house with the smell of classic roasted holiday joy.

But we now live in a more complicated world. When "Peter" arrives home from his adventures in the ostensibly java-bereft lands of West Africa, his backpack bursting with exotic gifts from "far away" (we never see what's in that box, but it's almost certainly opium-based; when you can't get supermarket-quality canned coffee, you have to take refuge in whatever gets you through the day), the exchanged smiles and coy bow-play inspire different, queasier feelings. Ones that make people describe this updated ad in far more sinister terms and then compose disturbing fanfic about the relationship. So thank you, Folgers Incest Claus, for squatting atop our chimneys and dropping this new holiday tradition into our living rooms every year since 2009. It wouldn't feel like the holidays without it.

Emily Yoshida: This ad is not only fantastic, it was a formative part of my creative education. I was in a video production class in fifth grade, and our final project was to create a television commercial. (My group ended up making an ad for a service that put together and executed garage sales in exchange for a cut of the profit. This is a terrible idea for a business, and it ended with a group dance to James Brown's "I Got You," which is an idea I think we stole from a Senokot commercial.) Anyway, in order to learn how to plan our shoots, the teacher had us draw storyboards off preexisting commercials. I knew whatever ad I picked should reflect my personality and also include imagery that I would be excited to draw over and over again in 30-plus frames. So of course, I taped this Klingon-language Hallmark ad off an airing of Deep Space Nine and proceeded to get really good at drawing Birds of Prey. Never got that ornament, though — Mom thought the Klingon were too violent a people to be represented on the Christmas tree. I dunno, maybe she wasn't reading the subtitles — they seemed to be way more diligent about writing thank-you notes than I ever was.

Charles P. Pierce: The Budweiser commercial gets more hype, but this one, with the lovely piano music and one-horse sleigh, is the one that most means Christmas to me. (Also, I prefer High Life to that St. Louie Kool-Aid anyway.) In fact, very often, the two get confused. On an episode of Designing Women, Charlene once referred to how sentimental she got when she saw "the Budweiser ad playing 'I'll Be Home for Christmas.'" That, of course, is the theme to this ad. (The Bud Christmas commercial plays the Budweiser theme.) And, yes, I watched Designing Women and remember specific dialogue from it. What's it to you?

Brian Phillips: Look,The Canada Goose Montebello tend to be more leisure, thus opening a broad space on the fashion area. children! A 6-foot-3 clown in yellow slaughterhouse coveralls is performing lyrical pirouettes across the middle distance of our neighborhood skating pond! His face looks like a chemical accident! Let's conga!

This commercial essentially played on repeat on every channel during the entire 1980s, which explains why — to this day — the sight of Battle Cat makes me long to accept a milkshake from a pedophile. I love Christmas.

Super-sized "Dancing" freestyles leads to smaller-than-normal blog entry

Like numerous Our Pros, certain stars, and especially Maria Menounos (oh how I thought I would never have to misspell your name again) who have performed while afflicted with various injuries, I too am more than prepared to put forth my best work when I am less than 100%. Yes, right now as I write this, I am battling a cold (and a broken heart), but as the consummate professional that I am, you can expect nothing less than the best as I recap the finals of Dancing with the Stars. Ha, who I am kidding! I'll be lucky to even make it to the end of this post after mistaking a bottle of Advil PM for a bottle of the non-drowsy version! Which is a feeling, I'm sure, shared by anyone who accidentally comes across my blog! Even if they weren't sleepy from some nighttime medicine! Last night's finale, pitting for the first time ever, three women stars, saw each couple dance two dances, a "favorite dance" of theirs from this past season, along with a "supersized" freestyle routine where anything goes. And went. So here's the breakdown of the three remaining couples, in order of appearance (with judge's scores in parentheses):

Kelly Monaco & Valentin Chmerkovskiy (29.5/29.5/59): For this couple's "favorite dance,Canada Goose Chateau Parka" they went with their big-red-curtain-flying-over-Val paso doble, which I guess is more note-worthy now for Val actually putting on a bolero jacket at the beginning of the dance, then his stripping down to his tighty-black'ys, as he did during last week's "Surfer Flamenco, "a "favorite dance" of every woman watching I'm sure. And just like all those disappointed women, I too was a little disappointed by this dance, and really all of the "favorite dances," just because it was a little "been there, done that." Plus, they completely messed up one move, which threw off the dance a bit. And to be honest, their freestyle was totally a "been there, done that" routine, a Dirty Dancing-inspired freestyle set to "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." Sure, the opening was pretty stellar, with Val on the violin, and Kelly doing some aerial fabric tricks like it was no big thang, but by dance's end, the routine was just a watered-down remake of the movie with the requisite lifting-you-up-in-the-air move.Men's HyBridge Jacket Whereas that move was expected, I actually loved that they added in the "upper arm finger graze" of the movie, an under-appreciated move that shows true chemistry when just the slightest touch (like a finger squeeze) can send electricity shooting through your body. The judges all basically agreed with me, that the dance was superb, but lacking originality, with Carrie Ann noting that the couple gave the crowd a happy ending. And who doesn't like a happy ending?

Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani (30/30/60): Thankfully, I'm sick, so it's unlikely that I'll be getting too worked up when Melissa and Tony aren't hoisting the Mirror Ball Trophy tonight (though I would certainly accept a volunteer to nurse me back to full-strength), as they have been the consistently best couple throughout this All-Stars run. They are so much fun to watch, and I would say that they matched Shawn & Derek, trick-for-trick, throughout the season. Plus who doesn't love Tony?!? I mean if you don't think Tony is the greatest male Dancing pro dancer ever, I will fight you. That's no lie. And just think of the endorsement opportunities these two could have after being crowned Dancing with the Stars champions: "Some might say that it was our exuberance for dance, some might say that it was my rock-hard abs, and some might say that we were just so fun that not even asinine questions from Brooke Burke could bring us down. But the truth of the matter was that Crest White Strips propelled us to victory. And spray tans. Lots and lots of spray tans. I'm talking layers here." But even after turning all "8's" from their early season "favorite," a samba, into all "10's," I just don't think it'll give them enough "judge's scores combined with viewer votes" to finally give Tony a well-deserved victory. After bombing in the final's freestyle the first time they were paired up, a tepid hip hop freestyle, with even Melissa admitting that "it bombed," the two looked to a "high risk" contemporary dance that was truly beautiful, showcasing Melissa's incredible lines and Tony's super-human strength (my guess is that he just held that initial pose all the way through the commercial break and rehearsal package). Whereas Kelly & Val employed a gospel choir and the Dance Troupe (shudder) in their super-sized freestyle, Melissa & Tony kept the attention focused on themselves, having only a few Cirque du Soleil cube-stretcher-people suspended (most likely without harnesses) high above the dance floor. For me, a contemporary dance is the most sexual of dances, with even Len wanting to get it on, telling the couple he wish he could get an "11." As someone who is used to getting an "11" for his own style of contemporary dance, I can understand what a compliment that is.

Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough (27/30/57): After being scolded earlier in the season by all of the judges for their rule-breaking "Hey Pachuko" quickstep, the couple trotted it out there again, for more judge's scorn, and more crowd-pleasing trickery, leading to another standing "o" (which is always accepted when you're doing your best work). Of course, then all the judges told the couple that they would have to score the routine according to the OFFICIAL RULES of the show - no breaking hold, no lifts – and then giving them a "9" (Carrie Ann), "8.5" (Len, of course) and "9.5" (Bruno, of course) for the dance. "Rules? We don't need your stinking rules," said everyone other than me, who really wants to see the "Official Rulebook of Dancing with the Stars." Which I imagine is a gem-encrusted Trapper Keeper. Luckily for them, the rulebook was thrown out (leading to some possible dumpster diving by me) for the super-sized freestyle, where the couple super-sized their dance by incorporating the pint-sized Fierce Five (most annoying moniker of 2012, you decide (as I already have... and it is) into a routine full of lifts, flips and unbelievable dances moves, including one with Shawn falling face-first from standing on Derek's shoulders into a front somersault. I mean,Canada Goose Manitoba Jacket that's a position that even I wouldn't try! As good as the dance was, Kevin Kawa was not impressed (most annoying phrase of 2012, without a doubt), as Shawn & Derek got a little lost in the shuffle with so many gymnasts performing tricks around them, especially when compared to the stripped-down routine from Melissa & Tony (and I love me some stripped-down routines!).

It's pretty obvious that I'm Team Melissa & Tony,Canada Goose Trillium Parka sending them all three of my votes (and I always vote for the season's consistently best pair, this is no surprise),LIVESTRONG Cycling and I do see them battling Shawn & Derek out in the finals-finals, after Kelly & Val come up just short (no matter if Val still wants to blame the temperature in the ballroom or not). Melissa also picked up the final Best Dressed Award of the season, which, whenever you wear the bikini-and-bedsheet combo, you're apt to do. Worst Dressed was really difficult, as I could've given it to Brooke's giant bun, but I decided to just be nice and just not award it this week. Tonight's final-final promises one more dance by the three finalists (something about them not knowing the style of dance, or the music, so I'm guessing it's like a super-sized "Instant Dance") which they'll somehow find time for during the 2-hour Results Show. Hopefully the NyQuil takes effect early, because I'll be setting my alarm for 10:59pm! But good luck to the rest of you in staying awake!

Symbolic renderings of a country at war

Violence in Syria has escalated. Tens of thousands more refugees have fled across the border, and the loss of life is reflected in the destruction of the country's historic patrimony – as when fire partially destroyed Aleppo's historic souk in October.

Such uncertain times can inspire more than literal representations of violence.

Though Syrian artist Guilain Safadi does not seek to depict contemporary events in his country directly, the work in “Ashes,” a series of black-and-white acrylic-on-canvas paintings and ink-on-paper sketches, does captures some of the horror of these events.

These monochrome images, now up at Artlab in Gemmayzeh, are a stark departure from the range of bright colors employed in Safadi's earlier works: “All I see is black and white. Everything is burned – the cities, our memories.”

With the exception of two sketches, all the works on show in “Ashes” were completed in 2012, a year after the outbreak of violence in Safadi's country. Though his work clearly references recent events, these are symbolic rather than literal.

The artist does not paint the harrowing scenes which have grown all too familiar over the past 20 months. Instead he paints people from his past – old friends and lovers, animals, masked figures and mythical creatures.

“I think when you have a hard situation you're trying to go back to the past because it gives you a break,” he says. “I see my cities burning, my memories with them. I try to catch a moment to remind me that we are [still] alive.”

Many of his roughly daubed paintings, all of them untitled, feature sad looking women, their hair jet black, their skin impossibly white, their squat bodies bare-breasted and adorned with the inky-feathered wings and scaly-looking legs of crows – like an allusion to the destructive harpies of Greek mythology.Canada Goose Whistler Parka

“I think the Arab woman is like a bird,” the artist opines. “She doesn't have freedom, she is in a cage. Therefore when I draw a real girl I try to use parts of a bird ... because they all want to fly.”

Another symbol in Safadi's work is the fish, a motif that reappears in many of his paintings. In one work, black-robed figures hold the body of a giant fish in the air, as though carrying a coffin at a funeral.Canada Goose Langford Parka

The fish, Safadi explains, is a reference to a Christian miracle, when Jesus is said to have fed 5,000 men from five loaves of bread and two fish.

“We need something like this because the children are all homeless,” he continues. “In Syria even the miracles are dead.”

The high point of the exhibition is a series of sketches that Safadi has titled “Nightmare Series.” These surreal works capture scenes from the artist's dreams. In spite of their complexity and detail, the sketches were completed in a matter of hours, he explains, while the memory of the dream was still fresh.

One sketch shows Safadi himself sitting at a long table, his hair falling around his shoulders, a halo around his head, a glass of wine in hand. Two swathes of cloth to either side suggest the scene might be taking place on stage.

Though the composition does not mirror Leonardo da Vinci's famous “Last Supper” exactly, the masterpiece is recalled in the relationship between the subjects. Like da Vinci's Jesus, Safadi sits at the center of the table, surrounded by people who are turned toward him, yet somehow isolated.

The figures around the artist are no 12 disciples. At his left there sits a frowning woman, whose long black hair matches the black feathers of the huge raven perched on her hand, beak stretched wide as though emitting an obnoxious caw. Facing the couple across the table is a man in a collared jacket.Canada Goose Womens New The back of his head looks human, but his face is grotesquely elongated – evoking the muzzle of a wolf, or perhaps the beak of a giant toucan.

Toward the back of the scene,Canada Goose Kensington Parka other masked figures loom out of the darkness.moncler down coats One woman is a traditional sad clown. Another is a terrifying creature with vacant, bulging eyes like ping-pong balls. These figures are the artists' friends, he explains, wearing masks from the commedia dell'arte.

Safadi's pieces may not depict scenes of violence, but sadness emanates from every canvas. Though they are by no means photojournalistic representations of the Syria's civil unrest, for those inclined to decipher the symbolism they provide perhaps just as valuable an insight into the psychological horrors of a country at war.

Cold Comfort: A Gear Guide for Camping in the Snow

Crisp air, fresh animal tracks, bug-free evenings, and water all around -- in the form of snow. A winter campout is a gorgeous way to experience nature. Here's a selection of gear to keep you safe and (relatively) warm.

The MS Snow Trainer Insulated GTX by SALEWA is the perfect boot for winter trekking's harshness: It's warm and exceptionally light, and its outsoles are made of a unique grippy rubber that stays pliable in the cold. A built-in gaiter prevents snow from spilling over the top and soaking your toes.

In the coldest heart of winter, anyone who skis, snowshoes, or hikes will still work up a sweat. Which is why the Nano Puff hybrid jacket from PATAGONIA is designed to stay warm even when wet. It's made of recycled polyester and has thin Polartec R2 fleece panels to vent your 'pits and back.

Ever since THERM-A-REST debuted its NeoAir line of sleeping pads, it has become the brand of choice -- nothing else on the market will keep you as warm or as comfortable.

Even high-loft hand covers cause a chill when moisture freezes on the outside. So MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR uses a technology called OutDry in its Jalapeno Gloves to prevent moisture from penetrating and turning your hands into painful blocks of ice. If you're a person whose fingers get cold easily, these will keep you insanely warm.

MSR's Lightning Ascent snowshoes integrate the frame with the claw that bites into the snow, dropping overall weight (a pair is 3 pounds, 15 ounces) and distributing it more evenly. Backpackers get an added bonus: The claw and teeth are independently flexible for durability and better grip on uneven terrain. And if you're headed into deep powder, you can add extension tails to increase float.canada goose chilliwack parka

In warm weather, most stoves run like jet engines because ambient heat helps maintain canister pressure.Canada Goose Trillium Parka But as the mercury drops, so does that pressure.Canada Goose Montebello In JETBOIL's Helios stove system, however, the fuel in the inverted canister exits as a liquid, not a vapor, allowing a consistent flow to the stove down to minus 10 degrees. The BIG AGNES String Ridge 2 comes with a fly (3 pounds, 11 ounces, with poles) that can be set up as its own floorless tent, which saves weight but still offers wind protection. Bring tent and fly together (5 pounds, 11 ounces) to get a bombproof shelter that can be erected in less than five minutes. It's also eco-friendly, with solvent-free seams and poles made sans toxic chemicals.

Snow can slash the effectiveness of any insulation. So the Zissou 0 (as in zero degrees) sleeping bag by SIERRA DESIGNS has a water-resistant fill called DriDown. Though the fill isn't meant to be waterproof, in our tests, it stayed totally dry. The Zissou is also more compressible and lighter (3 pounds, 1 ounce) than many synthetic bags and should last you a decade or more.

Even in winter, synthetic base layers can start stinking. But the BodyFit 200 lightweight leggings by ICEBREAKER stay smell-free thanks to merino wool's natural odor-resistant properties. They're just the right weight for active days and chilly nights, letting you pack less clothing.

Downtown NYC has a hip new neighbor: European fashion brand SuperTrash,Sale Cheap moncler down coats online with worldwide. brainchild of Dutch designer, Olcay Gulsen. On the boutique's opening night, fashion insiders gathered in droves to celebrate the event thrown by Interview Magazine at the store's 29 Prince Street venue. Guests included SuperTrash fan Angela Simmons, 30 Rock actress Katrina Bolden, actress Alexandra Daddario and bloggers Natalie Suarez (Natalie Off Duty), Christina Caradona (Trop Rouge) and Kimberly Pesch (Eat. DJ May Kwon was on hand to keep the party going. I spoke for a bit with the woman of the hour, Olcay Gulsen, who was decked out in a bodycon LBD from her namesake collection and a lust worthy pair of stilettos that she had just designed in Portugal two weeks ago. Gulsen gave me the lowdown on the SuperTrash empire and how she felt about her line's new NYC digs.

Gulsen began SuperTrash, a line of contemporary women's clothing, shoes and accessories, back in 2004 after a lifelong dream of a career in fashion.A new Canada Goose Kensington Parka for females is known as the in style . "I'm just in love with her! I think Bianca has such an effortlessly cool style and has always stayed very true to hersel," Gulsen added. The Comptoir des Cotonniers Sale Offers Euro Chic for 70% Off

French brand Comptoir des Cotonniers kicked off its seasonal sample sale yesterday morning at Clothingline. The Canada Goose Montebello tend to be more leisure, thus opening a broad space on the fashion area. Featuring utilitarian chic separates and outerwear,This is my review of my Canada Goose Trillium Parka and how it . the sale has been attracting a steady flow of New Yorkers with a certain je ne said quoi: minimalists, downtown cool girls, middle-aged European women, and even a dog who looked unmistakably like Léon, Comptoir's mascot. Considering the sizeable 70% off markdown, it's no surprise.

Comptoir's first foray into the sample sale world last spring was a bit underwhelming, so it's refreshing that this time around the offerings are covetable and the goods are priced to move. Everything is marked with its regular retail price,The Canada Goose Chilliwack Parka are bright and very easy to spot in the snow or anywhere you might be! so you'll need to do a bit of math to figure out the actual markdown. Since most Comptoir separates retail for about $150 to $250, there's a large offering of pieces in the $75 and under range.

At the front of the sales floor there's a long rack of knit separates, including cable knit sweaters, striped pullovers, and light tees in neutral utilitarian colors. A cable knit shrug was $46.50, a silk tee with an exposed back zipper was $40.50, a sweater featuring Leon the dog was $52.50, and a 90s-approved ditzy floral top with attached cardigan was also $46.50.

On the opposite wall, there's enough black dresses to keep you outfitted for every possible occasion for under $75 a piece. For the same price, there are also funnel-neck sweater dresses in blues and purples. We also spotted structured blazers, tailored shorts, architectural pants, and mini skirts. The most eye-catching piece was a floral quilted mini skirt for $36, but that might be because it was the only non-black item on the rack.

At the back of the sales floor, you'll find a trove of outerwear: the perfect place to refresh your collection. Regardless of you're preference, you'll find something here—trenches, puffers, tweeds, and bomber styles all included. One of the more expensive items available was a leather jacket for $151.50, which originally retailed for $505. Our personal favorite, though, was a caramel suede bomber jacket that originally $480 and marked down to $144.

Though the selection at the sale is pretty extensive, the sizing leaves something to be desired. Most of the knits are only available in smaller sizes (34 or small), while the more structured items seem to be available only in larger sizes (38 and up or medium through extra large). Luckily, the outerwear is offered in a full size range and there's a spacious fitting room. There are also a few small bins of accessories available, including angora neck warmers, opaque tights, and checkered cotton scarves with prices topping out at $30 an item.

Clothingline is rounding out its European offerings for the week by also hosting a Furla leather goods sample sale in the other half its sales floor. We spotted a vast variety of bags in a rainbow of colors starting at $99 and capping off at $249 for the larger sizes. There was also a small accessories section that was totally mobbed.

The Comptoir and Furla sales continue through Wednesday. For hours, check out all the details in our dealfeed.

Wearing a pink camouflage jacket and carrying a bow

Md.All Kinds of Castelli Cycling Jerseys. deer hunters ready for start of firearm season

Wearing a pink camouflage jacket and carrying a bow, Samantha Elliott walked out of Keystone Sporting Goods this week anticipating the beginning of firearm deer season on Saturday.

“This will be the first time in four years I've been out,” the 24-year-old Boonsboro woman said Tuesday. “I've finally gotten out of school and I've got the time … or I'm making the time.”

Elliott said she has been hunting since she was 13 and is looking forward to some time in the woods.

“I could probably sit in a tree stand all day and not see anything and still be happy,” Elliott said.Find all you need to know about SKY Cycling and learn the latest cycling tips and techniques. She prefers to have “wild game in the freezer to burgers,” she said.

“We're getting more of them each year,” Tim Stahl said of women hunters. “That's probably the fastest growing part of hunting.”

For 19 years, Stahl and his wife, Belinda, have owned Keystone Sporting Goods Inc. at 13611 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. Early Tuesday afternoon cars, vans and pickup trucks were coming and going from the business's parking lot.

Christmas is still the most important time of the year for their business, Stahl said, but business looked pretty good on this day.

In the back of one truck was the head of 10-point buck bagged by Calvin Staubs of Hagerstown. He got it and another large buck in Illinois where, he said, the deer are considerably larger than those in the East.

“He's my best ever,” Staubs said of the buck.

“The most memorable thing about my hunt is I went with my father … and he got a bigger one than me,” bringing down a 13-point buck, Staubs said.

Of the deer he brings in, much of the meat is given away, Staubs said.

“I donate four or five a year to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the hungry,” he said.

Staubs hunted during the archery and muzzleloader seasons, but did not bring anything home. Staubs said he generally hunts bucks — six points or better — and did not get a shot at any.

Staubs, 40, has been hunting since the age of 9, but Dick Knight of Hagerstown has that beat.

“Nineteen forty-five was the first year I hunted,” Knight said. He was 6 years old and figured he was as good with a gun then as most grown men.

“Yes sir, I'll be there Saturday morning,We support best quality, best service, and fastest ship for those monster beats cheap!” Knight said. Knight belongs to two hunting clubs in the Hancock area and, over the years, figures he has bagged 80 or more bucks and does.

Hancock is in Region A where the bag limits on whitetail are more restrictive. Still, the herd is more plentiful now than in the 1940s and 1950s, he said.

It is feared the businesses may have been the victims of crime.

Detective Constable Andy Haworth, of Dorset Police CID, said: “We have recovered some more images from what we believe to be surveillance footage of premises possibly in the west of Dorset.

“They show several locations, two women who we believe are staff, a person in work uniform, and a man in a red jacket walking past a red bricked building.

“One of the photos shows a plaque seen through some double doors that has the wording, ‘Supported by South Somerset’ with the logo of the South Somerset council underneath.

“I am keen to identify the businesses in these images to find out if they have been a victim of crime and to ensure that their security has not been compromised.

“I particularly would like to speak to the people shown in the pictures to see if they have any information that can help me with my investigation.

“I would like to make it clear that the people seen in these images are purely witnesses to any possible offences and are not in any sort of trouble but I believe that they will be able to identify the locations in the photos.

Charlotte Allen: Hey GOP, take the Palin cure

The Republican Party has been doing a lot of hand-wringing and finger-pointing since the presidential election. Half the conservative columnists and bloggers say the GOP lost because it overemphasised social issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage. The other half says the party didn't emphasise them enough. And everyone denounces Project ORCA,The Canada Goose Citadel Parka is popular over the world market. the campaign's attempt to turn out voters via technology.

But I've got a suggestion for cutting short the GOP angst: Sarah Palin for president in 2016. You think I'm joking? Think again.

In 2008, Palin, running as my party's vice-presidential candidate, was widely supposed to have cost John McCain the election. But that wasn't so. A national exit poll conducted by CNN asked voters whether Palin was a factor in their voting. Of those who said yes, 56 per cent voted for McCain versus 43 per cent for Barack Obama.

Furthermore, Mitt Romney, the GOP's anointed contender this year, got almost a million fewer votes than McCain did in 2008. (Meanwhile, President Barack Obama, although winning re-election, lost far more voters than the Republicans, with nearly 7 million fewer voters checking his name on their ballots than they did in 2008).

Millions of Americans didn't much care for Obama and his Obamacare spending blowout, but they didn't feel like voting for Romney either. Some said that Romney didn't resonate with recession-hit blue-collar folks in swing states because he “looked like the boss who outsourced their jobs,” as one blog commenter quipped.

Gabriel Malor, writing for the New York Daily News' blog, pinpointed another reason: by focusing his campaign mostly on serious economic and political issues such as the national debt and tax incentives, Romney failed to take into account the fact that large segments of the electorate neither know nor care much about serious economic and political issues. What they – a group sometimes euphemistically called “uninformed voters” – do know and care about are the tugs on their emotions, fears, revulsions and heart strings provided by hours and hours of uninterrupted television watching.

The Democrats understood how to reach that constituency. When Obama strolled the hurricane-stricken beaches of New Jersey in his bomber jacket, they were snowed. As Malor put it, Obama won on “binders, Big Bird, birth control and blame Bush.Max Altitude compares the Canada Goose Calgary Jacket to The North Face.”

Palin can more than keep up with the Democrats in appealing to voters' emotions.

Hardly anyone could be more blue collar than Palin, out on the fishing boat with her hunky blue-collar husband, Todd. A Palin “war against women”? Hah! Not only is she a woman, she's got a single-mom daughter, Bristol, to help with the swelling single-mom demographic. On social issues, Palin, unlike Romney, has been absolutely consistent. And let's remember that most Americans, whatever their view of choice, disapprove of most abortions.

Same-sex marriage? Palin opposes it. But she is also a strong advocate of states' rights, and I'm betting she'd be fine with letting states and their voters grapple with the issue on their own. Remember that all of America didn't swing towards approval of same-sex marriage on Nov. 6. Three reliably blue states and their voters did.

Palin's son Track is an Iraq war veteran, so she can be proudly patriotic without being labelled another George W. Bush, looking to do aggressive nation-building. She seems aware there is only one nation in need of building right now: America.

Furthermore, looks count in politics, and Palin at age 48, has it all over her possible competition, including Hillary Rodham Clinton, who will be 69 by Election Day 2016 and who let someone talk her into adopting the flowing blond locks of a college student.

Men love Sarah Palin, and she loves men. She's tough as nails too. After Election 2008, she was supposed to have been through. This year eight of the 14 GOP candidates Palin endorsed for Congress won election or re-election, including tea party favourite Ted Cruz for a Senate seat in Texas.

Sure, there is going to be never-ending nastiness from the left,Welcome to buy Canada Goose Banff Parka at Artic Goose online store. but she's already lived through that once. Katie Couric? A has-been. Tina Fey? Her shtick was already wearing thin in 2008.

There are also the snooty East Coast Republican intellectual types, such as Peggy Noonan,Buy online Canada Goose Langford Parka price from variety of collection. who look down their noses at a woman who doesn't shop at Neiman Marcus and didn't attend an Ivy League university. But Peggy made a fool of herself calling the election for Romney on Nov. 5. Who's going to care what she and her ilk have to say next time?

Some Republicans will say Palin has too much baggage from 2008, and we need to look for a new Sarah Palin. But I don't see what's wrong with the one we've got. Ever since the 1990s,We support best quality, best service, and fastest ship for those monster beats cheap! Republicans have been looking for the next Ronald Reagan. Reagan is now revered in bipartisan circles, but during his presidency he was, like Palin, ridiculed by liberals. They cited “Bedtime for Bonzo” and sneered at his no-name college degree.

Sarah Palin is the new Ronald Reagan: charming and affable and unwilling to back down if she's right. I can't see what's wrong with that.

A grim landscape

This time of year thou mayest in me behold a distinctly sour expression. It's partly all those ads featuring grotesquely over-ornamental jewellery, and designer saris and clothes that make the women who wear them look like walking Christmas trees with all lights blazing. And then, of course there are the joyous revelers who burst crackers all night long in our area, with the result that two of my dogs are nervous wrecks. (The third would sleep through the end of the world).

My reading has been fairly grim as well.Canada Goose offers the moncler down coats in women's styles. The Irish novelist, Anne Enright who won the Booker for “The Gathering” (Vintage) in 2007 is likely to be in Mumbai for a literary festival next month, and I've been catching up with the book.

It's about one of these huge Irish Catholic families (12 children of whom 9 survive, and seven miscarriages), and a mother who has turned into a zombie with all the childbearing. One of the siblings, Liam has just committed suicide, and everyone is coming home for the funeral. Veronica, Liam's slightly younger sister tells the story in her own voice. “I would like to write down what happened in my grandmother's house the summer I was eight or nine, but I am not sure if it really did happen. I need to bear witness to an uncertain event. I feel it roaring inside me---this thing that may not have taken place. I don't even know what name to put on it. I think you might call it a crime of the flesh, but the flesh is long fallen away and I am not sure what hurt may linger in the bones.”

After this little introduction of Veronica's, and two finely written chapters on her mother and grandmother, “The Gathering,” sadly, begins to fall apart as writing. It is both “under-written” and “over-written.Thank you! It's very good moncler jackets men!” There are so many siblings to talk about that one can barely remember their names, let alone anything about them what they look like, what they are like. They are just ciphers. The narrator doesn't tell us till more than halfway through the book that she saw her brother Liam being sexually abused by Lambert Nugent, ostensibly a friend of her grandmother's.

Veronica did nothing about it, and told no one. But Liam as he grew older went off the rails, became an alcoholic, and eventually committed suicide, thoughtfully wearing a yellow jacket that would make it easier for searchers to find his body. Delayed in this way, the revelation-to-be becomes something of a tease.

Perhaps the sexual nature of the event accounts for the endless, sometimes pointless references to genitals throughout the book. “I haven't had vodka in years; even now there is something sweet and crotch-like about the smell of it.Next you needs to have a carefully consider the Canada Goose Mystique Parka.” She thinks of long-dead Lambert Nugent.

“Nugent plays with his sister Lizzie, now they are both dead. They kiss each other and are consoled. The Canada Goose Heli-Arctic Parka has long been known as the industrial parka of the north. They do not breathe; the tangle and slither of their tongues is endless and airless and cold.” “I saw a man with tertiary syphilis at Mass, once… The flaps of the man's ears had been eaten away…the bridge of his nose had collapsed flat into his face…”

There are dozens of references to genitals of every size, shape or form,Below are the other classic discount gucci handbags like the Timeless Clutch. in dead men or men sitting next to Veronica in a plane or train, having a hard-on. One can find reasons for all this, but then, one can find reasons for anything. It's an immensely tedious read, especially when, as in the case of the syphilitic it adds nothing to our understanding of anything.

There's a happy ending of sorts. It turns out Liam has a little son called Rowan, and Veronica appears to be getting her life in order again. But two hundred plus pages of rambling memories that don't always add up is perhaps too high a price for the reader to pay.

Smile. Walk. Ignore the cheers,The Canada Goose Heli-Arctic Parka has long been known as the industrial parka of the north. the whistles, even the wolf calls. Stop. Pose. Set hand on hip. Flash that “I'm almost too cool even to be here” look. Smile. Walk.

This is all old hat for models. Even the senior ones working the runway at the first “SeniorFashion Show and Holiday Spectacular,” held Wednesday at the Boynton Beach Mall.

With ABBA's Dancing Queen blaring, the 14 senior women, and six men, joined another 20 models, ages 17 down to 6.

Skye Gladstone, 70, who's about to be a grandmother for the first time, slid across the stage in a slinky black outfit with an ever-so-short skirt.

“If you're comfortable wearing this, it's certainly in style,” volunteer announcer ArleenRoberts said.

Would she? “Oh absolutely,” Skye said.

Dawn DiPaola, who'd been Miss United States in 2006 and who runs a Delray Beach modeling firm, had taught everyone how to walk the runway.

The oldest model: Dawn's grandmother, Ida Christian, 90.

Well, not quite. She's just a kid — one month younger — next to Mary Bono.

“I had my nails done,” Mary called.

She said she's a veteran at this, having modeled at her church.

“I'm so proud,” Mary said.Canada Goose offers the moncler down coats in women's styles. So, she said, is her “significant other,” who's 99.

“You gotta keep going,” she said.

Then she took the stage,Next you needs to have a carefully consider the Canada Goose Mystique Parka. waving to her adoring fans.

Participants included Diane Greenfield, 66, of Greenacres and Barbara Mandel, 74, of Delray Beach, who'd seen announcements about the event.

“I dance,” Diane said. “I do karaoke.”

Barbara allowed as how she modeled as a teenager.

Barbara had a message for the cynics who say people reach a certain age and stop being beautiful: “I think you can look great at any age.”

Before Diane's husband died two years ago, “he told me to get out there and enjoy life,” she said. Then, a bit wistfully, “my husband thought I was beautiful.”

“They are beautiful,” said Katherine Reyes of Boynton Beach, who's all of 12. Most of these people have been retired longer than she's been alive. And her friend Alexandra Santiago, downright ancient at 16, chimed in, “Every woman is beautiful.”

Some were a little shy; not among them the male model who shook his backside and blew kisses. And some were a little slow. But all walked the walk.Thank you! It's very good moncler jackets men!

One of the biggest cheers came for Angelo Porcaro, 87, snazzy in gray slacks with white necktie and white jacket, who raised a fist like a champion.

“I've got that fire!” he'd boasted before he'd gone on. Then, a little sheepishly, a confession: “I wish I did.” Followed by that smile again. And the sparkling eyes. “But at least I'm on top of the ground.”

Shopping therapy

I have made it a point to spend more time with the important people in my life since becoming one of the displaced minions of corporate America. Last weekend I called my sister, Kim,Men's Clothing Canada Goose Womens New and Coats from the current Duvetica Goose Down Jackets Collection. who strangely enough also is a recent casualty of corporate downsizing. I invited her to go shopping -- something I know would pick up her spirits.

Kim was already on the road when I called. I had to fade down the volume of my earpiece to avoid the high-pitch scream that came from her as she begin telling me about where we should go and the real threat in her shopping arsenal -- a 60% off Stein Mart coupon.

Kim made great time and we hit the seasonal section of our first stop to buy some holiday decorations.A new Canada Goose Womens Resolute creates a clean read by getting a discreetly cinched stomach or thinner furrows solely. Kim was searching for a tree for her front porch, and I needed a few pieces to finish the den. The place was packed,For sale is a Canada Goose Resolute Parka men's jacket. and sometimes the shoving got pretty intense, but I justified my behavior by rationalizing that those elderly shoppers knew the risks when they decided to brave the half-off aisle.

We finished there and set off for the main event -- Stein Mart. We entered the store, and Kim's demeanor immediately changed. She gave me a 20% off coupon, told me the men's section was to the left, then, clutching her 60% off coupon like a dagger,Women's Canada Goose Trillium Parka Graphite ,The design of Canada Goose Parka is the good combination of style and function. flung herself into the bowels of the women's red dot sale section.

I thought at one point I heard an African wail, like the one from “The Color Purple,” right before Celie was about to shave Mister, but it could have been just my imagination.

After about an hour I gathered my few items and went searching for Kim. The search was like being in jungle combat. Every now and then among the skirts and blouses some woman would emerge, like the one with the same sweater in five different colors, or the short red haired woman screaming into her cell phone “No, everything is 60% off,” before she disappeared back into the underbrush of the cotton blend canopy.

Kim finally came from nowhere holding several items, looking wild eyed, smiling and exclaiming the deals she had found, but she said she had to try on a few skirts to make sure they fit.

Time seemed to stand still, similar to the special effect where one element is stationary and everything else is sped up all around it.The Canada Goose Constable Parka has a removable hood and is a slim, modern fit which makes it ideal for city streets or Arctic tundra. I stood there in the aisle clutching my few items as women shoppers raced all around me like a legion of animated pre-Black Friday leaf cutter ants.

I finally set off to locate Kim but found myself in a strangely familiar but awkward place outside the women's dressing room. Something in my past training as the only male in a house full of women kicked in, and I deftly picked up a few skirts from a nearby rack. A man just standing outside the women's dressing room might be suspect, but if you saw some poor slob standing there holding women's garments, you might figure that he should just be pitied and ignored, like an Egyptian shopping eunuch.

After a few minutes I saw my sister making her way through the red-dot jungle. Hey, she was not even in the dressing room. I replaced the skirts and thanked God the dressing rooms were not in the bra and panty section. Been there; done that.

Kim came toward me waving a skirt and jacket, her new interview outfit, like they were two African wildebeest pelts she had brought down during safari.

We finally took our place in the cashier line. I was tired, hungry and broke, and of course only two of my items were covered under my 20% off coupon, but the sight of my sister's smile and the sounds of her excited squeals when she realized the savings from her 60% off red-dot excursion were…well, priceless.

Here's to being thankful for the loved ones in our lives. Happy Thanksgiving!

Fashionable Life: Wardrobe Oxygen

In our November issue, we featured a hand-picked guide to the runway’s top 10 trends (p. 54-57), including black and white, studs, peplum, metallic brocade, capes, leather accents, herringbone, ankle boots, motorcycle jackets and military-inspired ware. Now,The Men's HyBridge Jacket Hooded Parka is one of the newest models from the Lightweight Series. we have sought out the area’s top fashion bloggers to showcase their takes on the trends. Tune in each Tuesday for the next several weeks to see trendy outfits created by Washington’s finest-dressed and exclusive interviews with the women behind the blogs.

In 2005, Alison Gary was traveling often for work, visiting clients every few weeks. But when a client she had only seen once a month greeted her as “the lady in the cream suit,” she realized she had worn the same outfit to the same client twice, and needed a system to keep track of what she was wearing. Enter Wardrobe Oxygen, Gary’s popular Washington style blog that helps women of all sizes and ages learn what works for their bodies. What started as a personal project grew into a tool to show that personal style can always be achieved. Now Gary sees her blog as a voice for women over 30, who still care about fashion but need to balance that passion with family responsibilities and work.

“I realized there were a few basics every woman should have in her wardrobe, no matter her style or size, and I wanted to share what I had learned through personal experience,” said Gary.

Gary sees a revolution occurring in the fashion industry right now, thanks to personal style blogs, and she is thrilled to be a part of it.

“Style blogs are showing that you don’t have to be the size, shape and age of a model to love fashion and look great in it. It forces designers to create for more than just 15-year-old,Women's Canada Goose Trillium Parka Graphite ,The design of Canada Goose Parka is the good combination of style and function. six-foot, size 0 models, because they are seeing there are plenty of women over 30 who still love fashion, and deserve to to have fashion that we can look fabulous in,” says Gary.

We love the confidence, spunk and pep that radiates from Wardrobe Oxygen, not to mention the killer workwear inspiration (we die for this outfit). Oh, and did we mention she combined four of the trends from our November trend report, and manages to strike the perfect balance between classic and trendy? We recently chatted with the woman behind the blog, to pick her brain on the best trends, how she creates her stylish outfits day in and day out and why her mom is her fashion icon.

Washington Life: Describe your style in five words or less:
Alison Gary: Modern classic with trendy accents

WL: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
AG: Fellow bloggers, particularly design blogs. I am more inspired by how decorators pair fabrics and colors to bring a room together than a collection lookbook. Oh, and my mom. She understands her figure, loves colors and accessories. I inherited a lot of her passion for fashion.

WL: If you could have chosen to live in another fashion decade,Max Altitude compares the Canada Goose Manitoba Jacket to The North Face. which one would you chose?
AG: My hair wishes it was still the 70s and early 80s, since it always parts in the middle. If I was 10 years older I would have been able to embrace the trends I really love like the grunge look and the big hair.

WL: What is the most versatile item in your wardrobe?
AG: I have a dress that I bought from Target shortly after my daughter was born.Massive range of Specialized Cycling and Castelli clothing accessories available. It is a three-quarter sleeved black shift dress with a boatneck. It has gotten more miles than anything else I own. I can wear it with knee high boots, tights and a scarf and run out the door or dress it up with heels. The length of the sleeves and the fabric make it wearable year-round. It is my not-so-little black dress, and I am so glad it’s in my closet.

WL: Five Washington winter must-haves:
AG: A warm water-resistant coat with a hood, a pair of knee high boots that you can spray down with protectant, a pashmina which can be used as a scarf, a wrap if your office is cold or even a blanket on a plane, a pair of boots with good grip that will handle the snow, salt and black ice and a pair of really thick tights (Spanx and DKNY have great options).

WL: Is there one accessory you are really loving at the moment?
AG: A couple inches up the wrist of bangles and bracelets, all in one metal. I am loving gold ones this season, from hammered cuffs to smooth

WL: Top item you are coveting:
AG: I really want a leather biker jacket in an unexpected color, like hunter green or oxblood.A new Canada Goose Chilliwack Parka creates a clean read by getting a discreetly cinched stomach or thinner furrows solely.

WL: What is your favorite neighborhood for shopping?
AG: Georgetown, hands down. I could spend all weekend there.

WL: Biggest fashion pet peeve:
AG: People embrace trends blindly without thinking about how they work with their personal style. You can spot a copycat a mile away.

WL: Trend you fully embrace:
AG: I could dress head to toe in leather.

Olivia Newton-John shares survival story with Hamilton

When Olivia Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, the first person she thought of was everybody else.

“I was about to go out on the road for a world tour and I had to cancel it and my first thought — this was actually my first lesson — was worrying about everybody else,” she says. “I had to realize I had to put myself first and focus on getting healthy.” She says it was a tough lesson to learn, but an important one, and one she thinks all women should consider. “We tend to put everyone else first,” she says.Cheap Canada Goose Montebello Parka are offered with 30% off and free shipping

Sharing her experience as a 19-year breast cancer survivor is what brought Newton-John to Carmen's Banquet Centre on Monday. She was the keynote speaker at a fundraiser for the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre — an event that sold more than 900 tickets, according to Michael Schwenger, chair of the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation board of directors.

By 6:30 p.m., attendees filled the lobby of Carmen's, standing shoulder to shoulder, dressed in sequins and suits and, in one case, a pink satin jacket with the words “Pink Lady” in black script across the back. Hits from the movie Grease played over the speakers. Signed posters were among the silent auction items everyone browsed while they waited to be let into the dining room for a meal, followed by a speech from Newton-John. Some were music and movie fans; others were people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

Rhonda McMillan and her mother, Jeanette, attend an event together every year for Christmas, and usually incorporate a charity in their outing.Cheap Canada Goose Kensington Parka Parka For Sale. When McMillan found out about Singing a New Song: An Evening with Olivia Newton-John, it seemed the perfect fit. McMillan lives on the east Mountain. Her neighbour has breast cancer.

Between ticket sales and the revenue from live and silent auctions, Schwenger estimates the evening will generate $60,000 for the new facility, which will focus on providing women with quick assessments and comprehensive care under one roof.

That's why Newton-John was such a good fit. She spent 10 years raising funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne, Australia. She says she's just learning about Hamilton's forthcoming breast assessment centre, but she's amazed by what she's heard.A new Canada Goose Womens Resolute creates a clean read by getting a discreetly cinched stomach or thinner furrows solely.

“I hear they're going to be doing some things with diet and with exercise and health, which I'm really happy about because we're not just breasts; we're a whole being and we really need to address that,” she says. “I'm very happy to be here to support this centre and acknowledge, sadly, that we need it.will overview the cohesion and continuity the LIVESTRONG Cyclingg project that started. I hope that we have a time that we don't.”

“I like to feel like a woman,Big Canada Goose Whistler Parka and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986." she said of her turn-ons. "I have to be in control in every other aspect of my life, so I feel like in a relationship, like I wanted to be able to take a step back and have somebody else take the lead.”

Being in love, she continued, "makes you go places you probably wouldn't ever go, had it not been for love. But I think everybody still has their limits."
