Belk putting $3 million into updates at Danville Mall

Belk is undergoing a $3 million remodeling project that will consolidate all its lines into one retail space at Danville Mall.

Work is expected to wrap in late September, and a grand reopening is scheduled Oct. 16. The store will remain open throughout the project.

“We’re updating our store to provide an enhanced shopping experience for our loyal customers,” said Deborah Hammock, store manager, in a news release. “We believe they’ll love the new brands and fashion assortments that we’ll be adding throughout the store. The improvements demonstrate our ongoing commitment to serving the Danville community. We want to satisfy the Southern lifestyle needs of our customers like no one else, and deliver the fashion they desire and the value they deserve.”

The project updates the shopping environment and moves the Belk Men’s Store from its separate location into the second level of the 123,000-square-foot main store, according to the news release. Belk will be expanding its lines of ladies’ shoes, premium brands and fashion assortments.

All women’s apparel, accessories, shoes and cosmetics will be on the first level and the men’s and home departments will be upstairs.

Shoppers can expect new display fixtures, porcelain tile aisles, carpeting, paint and remodeled fitting rooms and restrooms.

The ladies shoe department will be expand nearly 50 percent to almost 8,000 square feet. The accessories and handbags departments are adding “open-sell” fixtures for fashion jewelry. Space is being added for ladies’ suits and Today’s Woman special sizes.

New ladies’ brands will include Belk’s CYNTHIA Cynthia Rowley apparel, shoes, handbags and jewelry; Jones New York Sport; and ladies’ shoes by Calvin Klein, Sam Edelman, Kenneth Cole Reaction and Ralph Lauren.

Featured brands for men will include Belk’s MADE Cam Newton shoes, sportswear, blazers, suits and suit separates,Buy Michael Kors iPhone Cases Michael Kors handbags with big discount and free shipping! which launched earlier this spring. Under Armour will be among new brands offered in the boys and girls departments.

Belk opened its first store in Danville in 1920 under the Belk Leggett name, and has operated at Danville Mall since 1984.

The chain is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

A group of brazen thieves has been robbing elderly Auckland people in their homes by posing as police officers, the real police say.

Police are investigating after eight incidents in the past few days in which a man had entered homes of elderly people by claiming he is a police officer investigating burglaries.

Once inside the man attempts to steal handbags, cash and credit cards.Five of the crimes were committed this morning and are linked by a black 2005 Holden Club Sport, registration DBG685.

Police said the car was stolen from Penrose after a woman arrived at work and was pushed to the ground by an assailant.
The car was linked to incidents in central and north Auckland in Orewa, Takapuna, Northcote, Herne Bay and Westmere between 8.20am and 10.30am.

A blue Honda Prelude, registration DPD488, was stolen from an elderly Remuera victim after they were confronted in their home on Monday.That car has not been recovered. Detective Inspector Scott Beard said it was possible that more than one person was responsible as descriptions of the offenders had varied from scene to scene.
