Bugs out in force this summer

If area pests are bugging you, there are plenty of reasons for it: ants, yellow jackets, spiders and water bugs to name a few.

In general,Wu Tang womens body stockings , the F Word, Disney Princesses & More. it is peak season for many bugs and flying insects and Mother Nature has helped ensure they are out in force this summer.

“It's a good time to be a pest,” said Kristin Dodd with the North Carolina Pest Management Association.

Dodd said a warm winter followed by an early spring, the recent hot temperatures and decent amounts of rain have all had a hand in creating a good environment for the insects populEven functional Cheap High Heel Shoes For Women can be sleeveless.ations this summer.Hidden within the elegance and movements of german uniforms.

In some cases, she said, it's not that there are more of them but that they are showing up earlier than normal.

Yellow jackets, she said, are one example.

“People are calling in earlier this year,” she said.

She said yellow jackets nest in the ground and aren't always noticeable but because they are out earlier, their nests may be larger at this point in the summer. She recommends having a professional destroy the nest as they can be dangerous to some people who may or may not be aware of allergies.

A North Carolina woman died earlier this month due to an apparent allergic reaction after being stung by yellow jackets while working in her yard.

At the Cooperative Extension Office in Jacksonville, staff has had a large wasp nest to contend with this summer but area residents haven't been calling in about any one pest over another.

But the recent rain did bring out the mosquitoes.

“We're hearing more of mosquitoes,” said Peggy Garner of the Onslow County extension office. “With the rain we've had over the past couple of weeks, people have not emptied out the containers outside their house allowing mosquitoes a place to breed.”

While mosquitoes are a common summer nuisance, area pest control businesses are staying busy tackling calls that arise as residents encounter a number of others.will be warm along with gold bangle bracelets sporting spyder Moncler jackets.

Craig Muller, manager of the Clegg's branch in Morehead City, which serves both Carteret and Onslow counties,While fashionistas Sexy Black Faux Leather Legging from show to show to see the latest designer creations. said ants are a problem that they've noticed.

The dry, hot weather can send them seeking moisture and the other extreme, excessive rain, can drive them indoors.

And the first reaction of homeowners may not be the correct one. Due to the difficulty in identifying the types of ants, he said using an insect repellant to try to get rid of them can compound the problem.

“For the average homeowner an ant is an ant,” Muller said. “It doesn't matter if it's a carpenter ant or fire ant; if they see an ant, spray until it drowns is the average response.”

Muller said a minor ant problem could be solved by following their train to find the food source. Remove the food debris and treat that area.

If the problem continues, call a pest control business.

The heat can draw out the spiders but Muller said that's not necessarily a bad thing.

“Spiders are always an issue because people have a fear of spiders,” he said. “Most spiders are good spiders and help keep the insect population down.”

He suggests switching out white light bulbs for yellow bulbs. Because insects are attracted to white lights such as porch lights, a spider may locate there.

“Spiders are going to be around those areas because there's a food source there,” Muller said.

Several pest control businesses said water bugs are also out this time of year.
