Just over 20 years ago, one of the most influential bands in the riot grrrl movement released its first album. Bikini Kill helped define a movement that grew up as an offshoot of punk in the early 1990s, when many women felt marginalized by society, and in some cases, even by the punk-rock community.
Late last year, frontwoman Kathleen Hanna and her bandmates — two other women and a man — took up that thread again. They founded their own label, Bikini Kill Records, to reissue their discography.
"When we started our band, a big part of it was to encourage more female participation in the punk scene," Hanna says. "Selfishly, we wanted more women and girls to play music with when we went on tour. We wanted more women and girls to talk to about the experience of being in a band because we were constantly encountering sexism and having no one but each other to talk to about it."
Carrying that conversation to a wider audience was one of the reasons Bikini Kill was so influential, according to another riot grrrl musician, Molly Neuman.
"They were speaking about subjects that were specific to women and girls and sort of the ... general disenfranchisement that a lot of us felt but maybe hadn't articulated in that way," says Neuman, who played in the bands Bratmobile and the Frumpies.Is my authentic north face jackets truly ? "But then the music was, is, incredible. And I think it completely stands up."

Her introduction was the song "Double Dare Ya," the first track on the band's 1992 self-titled debut.
"The first thing that I heard starts out with a ton of feedback on an amp and Kathleen's voice saying, 'Is that supposed to be doing that?' " Marcus says. "So already it begins with this sense that everything's provisional; you're learning this as you go along."
"Double Dare Ya" continues with a declaration that would become iconic: Hanna kicks off the song by shouting, "We're Bikini Kill and we want revolution, girl-style, now.Shop the latest christian louboutin boots handpicked by a global community of independent trendsetters and stylists." Marcus says she took that as a challenge.

It was huge for a lot of people — and not just women.
"Immediately, I was transfixed because it was such a powerful, passionate female voice expressed through the music," says Mark Andersen, co-founder of a Washington,A new addition to the buy christian louboutin collection . While mainstream music often works hard to sound polished and flawless, Hanna says her goal was exactly the opposite.

Judge Norah tells men to try harder in Leopardstown fashion stakes
SHE'S given up one judging job for another – and the women are beating the men hands down.
Former 'Dragons' Den' judge Norah Casey joined designer Heidi Higgins and Galway-born milliner Mark T Burke on the judging panel at Leopardstown to find the most stylish man and woman.The world centre of LIVESTRONG Cycling.
Over 170 people registered to take part in the fashion event at the famous Lexus Chase day at the Christmas racing festival.
The 'Harmonia' publisher told the Irish Independent she was in search of a classic, comfortable look,The Men's Canada Goose Expedition Parka is the stylish choose for you're to wear when you are walk on the city streets. with the winner appropriately kitted out for the winter weather – but she said the men needed to pull up their socks.

The mother of four wore a six-year-old cream coat, accessories from Penneys and an orange hat ,which she bought at a vintage boutique in Cork.
Her prize included a feature photoshoot in 'Irish Tatler' magazine and a getaway to Mount Juliet. "I can't believe I won; it was my first time to Leopardstown and my mum and I decided to come up the last minute."
Taking home the Best Dressed Man title was Matt McKenzie-Smith, from Newbridge, Co Kildare.
The 36-year-old wore a tweed jacket from Penneys, a Louis Copeland shirt and brown leather shoes purchased in South Africa.
"I just threw the outfit together, I wasn't intending on entering the competition," he said.
"I was talent-spotted in the crowd. It's brilliant to win it."
Festivities
A total of 16,409 punters enjoyed the festivities at the south Dublin race course yesterday, compared to the same day 12 months ago where 15,222 turned out.

Bold looks at NY Fashion Week turn up the volume

collections at New York Fashion Week may not have had a single voice, but they
all spoke loudly.
"Bold" was the word that buzzed around the tents at Lincoln Center after eight days of previews came to an end on Thursday. Between saturated color, sexy cutouts, statement-making stripes and mixed-up prints, the clothes had sometLIVESTRONG Cycling continues to support Riis despite Hamilton's doping claims .hing to say.

From there, it was a bright red hand-crocheted tank dress and a few looks later was a tomato red suede jacket with rustic brown leather details.Throw a moncler down coatsover the shoulders for a quick way to pull together a look .
A colorful blanket-style serape was getting buzz from editors and stylists before they even left the downtown show space where Olivia Wilde and Jessica Alba sat in the front row. Francisco Costa, women's creative director at Calvin Klein, got to have final say Thursday at New York Fashion Week as one of the last major designers to preview a spring collection, but he left a purposeful impression of things left undone.
It's what left the crowd wanting more. Edges were left frayed, contrasting linings were revealed, and necklines were bare and exposed, all giving the impression that one was seeing more than they should. A gold hardware frame peeked atop the black sheer-panel dress that closed the show.
Costa has a knack for the "seductive lines," he mentioned in his notes. He certainly drew eyes to the bust and bodice, offering a series of conical bustiers, which were exactly what they sound like. On their own, they were futuristic but also a little harsh; under a sheer silk corset or a mesh silk crepe coat, they were sexy and edgy.
Calvin Klein continued the many layers of fabrics and textures that have dominated the runways: an abstract lace dress goes over a lacquered satin bustier and a bonded mesh skirt, for example.
