Social networks hold a bounty of consumer information

There’s over 2.5 billion content items -- over 500 terabytes of data -- added to Facebook’s databases each day, including over 2.7 billion “likes.” The introductions of Graph Search and hashtags to Facebook have generated waves of excitement among advertisers and marketers to tap into that data. Facebook’s marketing potential has increased dramatically.

Graph Search is intended to make it much easier for Facebook users to locate people, photos, and videos. But it’s now possible for marketers to search across the collective network of over a billion worldwide users to identify common opinions, “likes” or interests. The results will be different depending upon the preferences of individuals within any given social circle – or, in all probability, market segment.

It’s possible to “ask” the Graph what the best pizza in New York is, or to locate individuals living within the East Village who are vegans. Research shows that vegans are more likely than others to try new things,Latest collection of Wholesale High Quality Prada handbags. so the upside for businesses is evident.

Hashtags, which were introduced to Facebook last month, aggregate conversations that occur across Facebook onto a dedicated page to create greater advertising opportunities. Presumably,Shop online for Wholesale High Quality Louis Vuitton handbags. an advertiser could “own” or “brand the page” for a show like #dancingwithstars or a major event like #worldseries. Brands can also reach beyond their current follower base by tapping into conversations that have the hashtag, or by creating conversations and encouraging people to join in.

Social media buying firm OMD estimates that 75% of its clients, which include major brands such as GE and PepsiCo, have already tried hashtags on Facebook. Sotrender has found that 61 of the UK’s top 100 companies are also trying it out. Fashion brand Michael Kors has recently attempted to start conversations about handbags with the hashtag #WhatsInYourKors. BET used the same strategy for its recent BET Awards and had over 9 million Facebook interactions,The cheap Wholesale High Quality Balenciaga wallets is a very good fashion items for you. Mashable reports.

That all sounds terrific, but Sotrender has found that the influence of hashtags isn’t as great as anticipated. The U.K. brand data demonstrated a real but weak relationship between hashtags and engagements. Let’s examine what’s missing.

Graph Search and hashtags are major advancements for marketers and advertisers, but their respective benefits won’t be fully realized until they are integrated. The issue is that hashtags are driven by keyword search, which is arguably dated. That alone this won’t serve as a long-term strategy for targeting campaigns. Advanced semantic technology is what’s required to bring those concepts together.

Semantic search provides the ability to access unstructured data such as chats or video that would give marketers the opportunity to tap into conversation streams allowing them to create highly targeted micro campaigns. These would include: likes, interests, associates, hashtags and content of conversation over Facebook. Buy the Michael Kors Skorpios and luxury leather purses at hotmkbags.

It then becomes possible to micro-target BET viewers, dancing fans, fashion enthusiasts, potential GE customers, Pepsi drinkers, and World Series watchers.

The real marketing power will come into play when hashtags are folded into Facebook’s Graph Search, which is powered by semantic search.Shop the latest Wholesale High Quality Yves Saint Laurent jewelry at mybag1.

Christian Louboutin on Why Shoes Are So Damn Expensive These Days

Shoes are one of those fashion items that people will tell you is an "investment" — that is, you'll wear them a lot, so it's okay to spend ghastly amounts of money on them. Maybe that's the reason why they've gotten so much more expensive in the past decade, more so than any other fashion category; customers are willing to pay up. But according to Christian Louboutin, rising shoe prices are also due to something much less glamorous: rising production and material costs, snooze. "It is more expensive to make shoes now," he tells the Times, "and it’s for a very boring reason."

He goes on to cite the Euro's strength against the dollar and growing competition for materials from Asian factories, all of which make it more expensive to produce shoes in Europe. Some luxury companies are even buying their own tanneries to cut out the middleman,Welcome to our michael kors outlet online shop! Here we sale Michael Kors Hamilton Satchel, bags, purses, wallets with very low price. Join us quickly! but there's really no way to get around it: shoes are just crazy expensive. Louboutin say his own production costs have actually doubled over the past five years — which may be why a pair of his black boots cost $2,645.

Some brands, of course, would rather eat the rising material and production costs to keep their prices level (Manolo Blahnik has done this for the past three seasons, for example). But when customers seem willing to spend whatever it takes, it's hard to imagine why any shoemaker would refrain from jacking up their prices.

Befuddled by buying running shoes for the first time? Zero-drop? Extra stability? Motion control? What shoes will ward off injuries? A new study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine says run-of-the-mill running shoes are probably just fine. [Rasmus Oestergaard Nielsen et al, Foot Pronation Is Not Associated With Increased Injury Risk In Novice Runners Wearing a Neutral Shoe: A 1-year prospective cohort study]

Researchers tracked 900 inactive but healthy adults who took up running. About a third had at least one foot that pronated—rolled inward when running—or supinated—rolled outward. These conditions are often cited as important factors in choosing shoes.

But for the study, all participants wore the same "neutral" running shoes, not meant to correct for any stride issues. And after these newbies hit the road regularly for a year, the results were, well, striking.

With more than 310 miles logged each, about three quarters of all runners remained injury free. There was no significant difference in injury rate for most of the foot-strike types. In fact, people whose feet pronated were actually less likely to have had an injury than those who had normal or supinated foot strikes. So, lace up some basic footwear. And save your sweat for the run.

TO the businesses and organisations she offers support and guidance, town centre chaplain Marjorie Conroy is considered an angel.

The HoneyRose Foundation, which delivers wishes to seriously ill people, learned that the grandmother-of-eleven dreamed of owning a pair of Jimmy Choo designer shoes.

The charity’s founder Lynn Duffy duly decided to whisk Marjorie to Selfridges in Manchester where she could pick out a pair of the glamorous heels.

And after all the pain and distress of the illness and treatment, Marjorie – who was joined by granddaughter, Jemma, and niece, Elaine, loved her special day.

She told the Star: “Bringing up four children when younger I would have been lucky if I could afford a pair of shoes... never mind expensive designer ones.

“This all came about by chance and kindness really. I called into Lynn’s shop and she asked me what I would like, I joked I would have some size six Jimmy Choos if any were going.

By Joe Pinchot Herald Staff Writer

MERCER COUNTY AREA — The Herald’s 10th annual appeal for the Shoe Our Children program through its Good News Fund is offically under way.

The program provides school shoes to the area’s less fortunate children.

The three-month effort continues to grow out of necessity and will last through the middle of September.

In the last nine years, The Herald has helped to raise nearly $250,000 for the program. That amount includes many contributions from residents, businesses and organizations.

The late James E. Winner Jr., former chairman of Winner International in Sharon, started the program, inspired by his childhood experience of rarely having a good pair of shoes to attend school.

Beginning in May 2004, The Herald assumed the responsibility of raising funds for the program. With the cooperation and support of Karen Winner-Sed, who succeeded her father at Winner International, the fund has helped to provide thousands of pairs of shoes to children in Mercer County school districts and in Brookfield.

Shoes are delivered at the beginning of the school year, when employees from Winner International sacrifice some of their lunch hours to help the effort.

The distribution of shoes continues throughout the school year. Application forms are sent to schools and distributed to parents.

Organizers of the program never know who is getting the shoes – they just receive orders for certain sizes and ages.

The program has the resources to fill a child’s need immediately, as shoes are stockpiled in the Winner International warehouses in Sharon. Karen and her assistants broker deals with shoe companies across the country.

In addition, the Jubelirer family, owners of Reyers Shoe Store in Sharon, has been a faithful supporter and has donated nearly 7,500 pairs of shoes to the program.

Individuals, businesses and organizations wanting to make a tax-free contribution should make their checks payable to The Good News Fund/Shoe Our Children and mail them to Nancy Ash, in care of The Herald, Box 51, Sharon 16146. Contributions may be dropped off at The Herald office, 52 S. Dock St., Sharon.

The fund offers residents the option of making a donation in the name of a friend or family member. The names of donors are published in The Herald periodically throughout the appeal. A complete list of donors will be printed at the end of the campaign.

MORE than 250 pairs of shoes and trainers were collected for those less fortunate in Africa as part of a campaign launched by Bromsgrove man Bill Jones.

He started the Fill Your Boots scheme under his Our Home Nakuru project because children at the orphanage were not allowed to go to school if they did not have footwear.

Bill retuned to Sidemoor First School, where he launched the campaign, to collect the shoes and trainers that had been donated.

As well as the school, a collection point was also set up at Bromsgrove's Altered Images gym, Worcester Road, where residents could donate trainers they no longer needed.

Bill thanked everyone from Sidemoor First School, Altered Images and Old Yarr Estates for their incredible efforts in collecting all the much-needed footwear.

"With your combined efforts, over 100 Kenyan children will be able to go to school who could not before because they could not afford school shoes.

"Also, we have a huge stock of running shoes that will help some of the world's best athletes reach their potential and, who knows, maybe one day we'll see a new world record thanks to these new running trainers," he added.

David Bench: The force behind Cary Crime Stoppers

David Bench is Cary’s top civilian cop.Welcome to our michael kors outlet online shop! Here we sale Buy Michael Kors, bags, purses, wallets with very low price. Join us quickly!

That’s what he jokes, anyway, as he sits in a home office bedecked with replica cowboy revolvers, model cars and high-end radio systems.

This is Bench’s command center: He watches carefully through his wire-frame spectacles as cars roll down the cul-de-sac, and he monitors his scanners for incidents in his district. Perhaps most notably, he manages a crime-fighting network of financiers, volunteers and tipsters.

“I don’t wear a mask and a black cape and all that stuff,” said Bench, 70. “I’m a good speaker. I enjoy going to Rotary clubs and Kiwanis clubs.”

The native of Syracuse, N.Y., is chairman of Cary Crime Stoppers, a local nonprofit that has had a role in some of the town’s closest-watched investigations lately.

An anonymous call through the Crime Stoppers hot line helped Cary police nab a suspect in the March fire that caused $500,Michael Kors Outlet Store provides you 64% OFF Wholesale Michael Kors Messenger Bags.000 of damage to Cary Parkway.

A Crime Stoppers tip was part of the investigation of a 2010 murder.

And the group already has paid out $3,200 for information this year, putting it on track for a record-breaking year.

“Once Crime Stoppers tips come in, it’s kind of a snowball effect ,” said Bench, who lives in central Cary with his wife.

The son and grandson of police officers, he doesn’t credit himself for his group’s recent success. Crime Stoppers still runs much as it did when Bench took the helm a decade ago: Callers dial 919-226-CRIM and are routed to the Cary Police Department.

The tipsters don’t have to give their names, and they never appear in court, Bench said.Guarantee High quality replica watches supply, Thousands of luxury designer cheap replica watches that compliments your Style.

If the tip leads to an arrest or conviction, Bench and his board tally up a payout of anywhere from a few hundred bucks to $2,500, depending on factors such as the severity of the crime and the contraband seized – drugs, most often.

Bench traces his interest in police work to his childhood days, watching his father handle police duties in the Syracuse courthouse.

He’d spend afternoons at the radio, waiting to hear that his pa was heading home. Later he would become an expert in telephone systems, and he has always parked himself at the edge of police and civilian culture.

A 26-year resident of Cary, he remembers local Police Chief Pat Bazemore from her days as a DARE officer, and by now he knows Cary’s radio codes as well as most any officer. Between Crime Stoppers and his constant vigilance, Bench is pretty well known around Town Hall.

“Something goes down on the scanner that’s anywhere near his neighborhood, usually I get an email. The Cheap Michael Kors Bags will provide you cheap but high-quality products. He’s a little bit like a reporter,Welcome to buy christian louboutin shoes from our online store.” said Capt. Don Hamilton, with the Cary Police Department.

It’s hard to say whether the force will hear more or less out of Bench after he leaves the chairmanship of Crime Stoppers in December. His schedule freed from fundraising and networking, he may just have more time to watch his window and listen to the scanner.

In his absence, Bench hopes the group pushes harder to get its name out. As the police department has tried to broaden its public face, so too might its civilian supporters. Cary’s Citizens Assisting Police group also has seen growing popularity in recent years.

“Everybody wants to be a cop or fireman,” Bench said. “You guys got the glory job. Nobody wants to be the telephone man.”

Richie Porte's Paris-Nice Pinarello Dogma TT bike

Although only 9.6km long, the stage is a mountain time trial that sends the riders out of Nice and straight up the D2564. It rises to 501m with an average grade of 4.7 per cent, though there are pitches of over eight per cent.

It starts with two kilometres between six to nine per cent with a couple of very short sections of false flat before kicking up again. If riders have anything left, then the final kilometre to the line is gentle downhill.

Before the start, Porte had a lead of 32 seconds over Andrew Talansky of Garmin-Sharp, a serious contender for the overall win, should Porte falter. So, facing the most important race of his career, what bike and set-up did Porte opt for? We spoke to his mechanic Richard Lambert to get the inside line.

"It's a totally stock, off-the-peg Pinarello Dogma 65.1. The only thing that's different is that there's no blue paint on it, to save some weight," explained the former racer. So it looks different, a bit stealth, a bit special ops, but basically it's a standard frame with less paint?

"Yes, Pinarello picks the lightest frame off the production run of those size frames and then give it to us and there's only lacquer on it. The geometry is standard, it's not a special build or anything. In fact, there's no custom geometry used on any of the bikes."

Having said that, the riders do have the option to fit two different forks with different trail measurements, either 47 or 45 degrees, which makes the steering more or less sharp. In the Sky team, only Ian Stannard opts for the more ‘relaxed' 47-degree fork; everyone else is on the standard geometry - but it's purely down to rider preference.

This plain Pinarello is the latest incarnation of the Dogma 65.1, and Porte had ridden the same spec frame until the final two road stages of Paris-Nice, at which point Lambert built an unpainted ‘replica' bike.

"The position on this ‘TT' bike is exactly the same as his road position - the bar height, stem, saddle position, everything's the same. He rode it on the stages before the time trial because he wanted to try it and be happy with. It was the same set-up minus the tri-bars." And minus that ‘heavy' blue paint!

"As far as the clip-on tri-bars go, he just wanted the version with the upturned ends - he's ridden with the flat-end bar design in previous races but I think he found the upturned bars more comfortable, and they give him a bit more leverage," explained Lambert.

In as much as there were very few sectors of the final stage where aerodynamics were significant - Porte's average speed was just 29.89kph - the aero benefit of tri-bars is less significant, though comfort clearly is.Erik's Bike Shop is proud to carry LIVESTRONG Cycling, gear and apparel. The final downhill kilometre makes an aero shape important, but doesn't justify the use of a full-spec time trial bike.

And for those expecting Sky's famous ‘marginal gains' philosophy to express itself in the wheels, well, no. "The front wheel is a standard, couple-of years-old Shimano C24, 16-spoke model. The rear, because we are now running on Di2 11-speed, it's what I'd call the ‘Classic' hub, which is the older-style Shimano hub run with the 11-speed cassette on a C24 rim. It's a hand-built wheel, built by us. But it's a standard rim, standard hub, standard spokes."

It is, as the kids say,We work with all Castelli Cycling computers. ‘standard'. So Porte was running a hand-built road wheel.View profiles and information for the Team RadioShack Cycling 2012 race team and riders here. Nothing fancy - on the most important time trial of his career. And why was it hand-built? "Because Shimano haven't released a C24 11-speed wheel yet."

The pedals and saddle are road issue too but, though the wheels were standard road spec, then the tubulars were different. "Yes, he's running the Veloflex Extreme today, so they're slightly lighter in weight, 22mm tubs compared to the road tubs."
The drivetrain is - yes, you guessed - standard. Porte was running Shimano Dura-Ace SRM-equipped cranks with 53/39 rings and an 11-25 cassette. "The chainset is still the 10-speed, since the new 11-speed [SRM] designs are still in the prototype phase," Lambert noted.

So, essentially, it's his road bike with clip-on bars and slightly lighter tyres? "Yes. Overall, it's as light as we can make it. It's over the UCI limit without clip-ons. In fact, it's 200g over with the SRM and everything. With the clip-ons added, it's 7.2 kilos." To be clear, Porte's road bike weighs 6.Big Garmin Cycling and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986.82kg without the clip-ons, including the SRM crank and its associated gubbins.

You might say that Porte's Paris-Nice winning bike was something of a disappointment. It's a bike anyone with the cash could buy. There are no secret squirrel parts on it. Lambert laughed: "You expect miracles to be worked? You think that he's got some kind of special bike? The reason he goes as fast is that he's good!" You can't argue with that.Great discounts on our huge range of SAXO BANK Cycling clothing .

Halloween fans show their stripes!

The NFL and the zebras may be nearing an end to the lockout that turned the first three weeks of the football season into an on-the-field free-for-all and a PR disaster, but guess what’s the hottest-selling Halloween costume at iParty?

None other than the blind replacement ref and his cane!

A whopping 72 percent of the 31,000 people surveyed said the Lingerie League refs have “impacted the outcome” of NFL games this season. And although the respondents were split on which side they backed in the labor dispute, there was near-unanimous agreement that the lockout needed to end.

“Long games, safety concerns for the players and a lack of knowledge of the rules have given fans the perception that these replacement officials are jeopardizing the integrity of the game. They believe ... this can be and should be resolved,” Mulcahy added.

Life jackets - to wear or not to wear, that is the question

It's spring and boaters are taking to the waterways of North Carolina to break the monotony of the winter doldrums. Even though the numbers of the boaters seem to be declining due to the price of fuel and the general decline of the economy, there is still a need to be aware of boating safety.

The U.S Coast Guard and its Auxiliary are on the water and at the launching sites asking small boaters to check their safety gear. This sounds like standard operating procedure for the small boaters but how often do you see the various enforcement agencies checking on the larger fishing boats that specialize on wandering around in the offshore waters?

In the past 20 years we boaters have seen the small boaters who stay on the somewhat calmer waters of our lakes,The other problem is that a kayak makes german ww2 uniforms a sound like a drum.It is the best time to be discount women canada goose coats. rivers and sounds start to wear their life jackets (personal flotation devices, PFDs) as a standard part of being on the water. This is a 100% Discount Woolrich Outdoor Clothing,we don't have anything that's 100 percent. It took years of the USCG and local enforcement agencies stressing water safety to the small boaters and advising all boaters to wear their PFDs and still only a few boaters wore the PFDs as standard operating procedure. It wasn't until some strenuous work by the well-well known Ray Scott of the Bass Angler Sportsman Society and Forrest Woods of Ranger Boats started requiring all boaters taking part in their tournaments to wear their PFDs at all times while their boats were under way that these small boaters began to accept the idea of using of PFDs.

Thanks to these earlier efforts, small boaters began to adapt the concept of wearing the PFDs even when they were not in a contest. Fashionable, well-designed and effective PFDs became the "IN" things to be wearing for bass anglers as well as other small boaters.

How many of the boaters who go on the water in the larger boats such as the offshore fishing boats do you see wearing their PFDs as they're under way? I'd venture to say that darned few wear the PFDs as they troll for big game fish unless they are expecting to sink or are having rough weather. As one of the boaters on a 60-foot offshore boat recently told me, "I'd be laughed out of the yacht club if I boarded my boat actually wearing a life jacket."

When I recently boarded a 45 foot-long offshore fishing boat to enjoy a day's fishing for tuna and marlin off the coast of the Bahamas it didn't enter my mind about wearing a life jacket. As we boarded the boat the captain carefully reviewed the boat's safety rules and pointed out a locker filled with the standard, tried and proven, orange life jackets. The weather was good and it looked like a good day afloat was in store for us.

Unfortunately the fish were not cooperating in these waters off the coast of the Abacoes as we trolled six lines rigged for tuna or marlin. We were experiencing moderate waves but not uncomfortable at all as we loafed along at about 7-knotsThey are particularly seen to supply the canada goose cheap jackets..

I was comfortably seated on a large, heavy icebox just outside the confines of the boat's cabin with my back toward the starboard side of the boat. There was no need to hold onto anything because I was securely seated and not moving around.
