Dunn homers as White Sox beat Cubs 6-0 to complete weekend sweep

This is what the Chicago White Sox expected when they made those big moves to acquire Jake Peavy and Adam Dunn. They just figured it would happen sooner.

Peavy pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning, Dunn hit his 14th homer and the White Sox beat the crosstown Cubs 6-0 on Sunday to complete the weekend sweep.

Their fourth straight win put them back at .500 (21-21),While Ralph Lauren hoody of what Americans might call knickers, and two big reasons for that are two players who seemed to be on the decline coming into the season.

Not now, though.

Peavy is dominating again after being limited by injuries in recent years, and Dunn has his stroke back after it abandoned him last season, his first in Chicago.

"I'm not a big thinker, I have an approach each game and I try to stick with it," Dunn said. "Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't."

These days, it's working. And Dunn got plenty of help Sunday.

Gordon Beckham and Tyler Flowers also went deep as the White Sox matched their longest win streak and a season high with three homers. Not bad, considering Paul Konerko sat out his second in a row after being hit near his left eye by a pitch on Friday.

"If we can keep going on the right track with the guys swinging the bats the way they have the last few days, we should be able to play a little more consistent," Peavy said.

For the Cubs, meanwhile, the misery continued. They dropped their sixth straight to match their longest skid this season, and they never regrouped once the White Sox started knocking the ball out of the park.

Back-to-back homers by Beckham and Dunn leading off the fourth gave them a 2-0 lead. Flowers made it 3-0 with a drive to start the fifth off Paul Maholm (4-3), giving the White Sox three homers for the second straight game and Peavy (5-1) all the support he needed.

The right-hander struck out seven and walked two over 6 1-3 innings even though the wind was blowing out.will be warm along with authentic canada goose jackets sporting spyder Moncler jackets. He helped chase Maholm during a two-run seventh, grounding into a force and scoring on a sacrifice fly, and he left to cheers with a runner on first after retiring Ian Stewart on a fly to right in the bottom half.LangenCanada Goose jackets 50 off mens parka online Shop.

"We had opportunities to score a lot of runs with the wind today," the Cubs' Alfonso Soriano said after watching the Cubs leave the bases loaded in the fourth and eighth. "Sometimes, we see a flag like that and we're not (concentrating). .Even functional authentic moncler jackets womens can be sleeveless... We see the wind and we forget that we have to hit the ball first."

It was a charged weekend in Chicago, with Kerry Wood retiring and Konerko getting hit in the face, not to mention the protests in the city surrounding the NATO Summit.

There was heightened security outside Wrigley Field. Inside, it was more of the same.

Peavy shook off a rough outing against Detroit and got back to dominating. The Cubs, on the other hand, could be in for some lineup changes.

"We need some production," manager Dale Sveum said. "The bottom line is two months into the season, we have to start producing or we're going to have to start making some changes."

Maholm got hit hard, allowing five runs and nine hits over 6 1-3 innings after going 4-0 in his previous five starts.Don't even think about authentic north face jackets or ski wear.

He was sailing along until Beckham lined the first pitch of the fourth to the street beyond the left-field bleachers for his fourth homer. Dunn followed with a drive to center on a 2-2 pitch for his second home run in as many games and 43rd against the Cubs. Among active players, only Albert Pujols has more with 53.

Let's hear it for the boys: menswear charms London

Menswear was the focus of autumn/winter 2012 London Fashion Week Wednesday with designers of classic Savile Row suits and avant garde Fashion East casual wear saying that London was still a synonym for quality in men's clothing.

London's Savile Row is world-renowned for its tradition of bespoke classic menswear pieces and quality construction, and Gieves and Hawkes design director Barry Tulip told Reuters that his collection stayed true to tradition whilst updating it for this season.

"The most important thing about this collection is that we've not reinvented the wheel, we've kept it very classic. We've just updated it to make it relevant for today's customer."

Exotic luxury blends of cashmere and mink were featured on some of the jackets in the Gieves and Hawkes collection, along with playfully bright geometric printed ties to brighten up the mood in austere times.

"When everybody is depressed as they are now, you have to dream a little bit - for instance we've gone to town with our printed ties taking our inspiration from David Hicks," he said.

Hicks was a well known interior designer in the swinging sixties of London, and Tulip said that the collection featured many other small 1960s elements such as widened lapels and a lowered notch.

Elsewhere in London another Savile Row brand, E. Tautz, sent models down the runway in hand-made woolen tweed and cotton creations in hues of black, charcoal and grey.

Double breasted polo coats, charcoal tweed jackets, and wool tweed zip duffel coats were featured in an elegantly decorated Freemason's hall replete with colorful stain glass windows.

Designer Patrick Grant said he was inspired by the heavy materials worn by the military, having wanted to become a member of the horseguard cavalry when he was a boy, as well as the dark absorbent forms he saw at a Richard Serra exhibition in New York.

"All the clothes in this collection are very matte, ralph lauren hoody quite heavy, and it's that really light-sucking matteness that we liked and that came from Serra," he told Reuters.

QUALITY AND QUIRKINESS

London's reputation for quality and originality was also an important focus for many of the casual menswear designers featured at NEWGEN and Fashion East Men.

Designer Paw Hansen, authentic moncler jackets, cheap canada goose originally from Denmark, said that the level of quality was very important for his minimalist 1950s and American baseball inspired jackets.

"All my clothing is handmade in Britain. I've worked at many places before and I didn't want to just tap on a keyboard send the designs off to be made in China, I wanted to be involved with the patterns," he said.canada goose sale cheap

The Fashion East venue featured a number of quirky installations, with models playing table football in orange and black long coats, three models sitting at a bus shelter showing off grey and white Christopher Shannon streetwear, and boys for T. Lipop in hooded parkas with fake snow on their eyebrows and beards.canada goose jackets

Kit Neale, whose bright allotment-inspired colours featured harlequin greens and aubergines, said that London was a great place to look forward in menswear.

"Menswear can push so much at the moment - it's all about the boy having the confidence and attitude to wear it."

Rain, umbrellas, tweed: Burberry puts on a very British show at London Fashion Week

They say weather is a national obsession in Britain — but perhaps more for Burberry Prorsum's Christopher Bailey than for most.

With a clap of thunder and a torrent of realistic rain running down the sides of a glass tent, the luxury brand's creative chief sent his umbrella-toting models down the catwalk in a finale that brought a smile to everyone's face.

Burberry, which stages its twice yearly runway shows in its own temporary Hyde Park tent, is the biggest and glitziest production during London Fashion Week. On Monday, the autumn and winter 2012 display drew a huge crowd of buyers and spectators, including a host of international stars such as Hollywood actress Kate Bosworth, celebrity photographer Mario Testino, and even Korean pop group Girls' Generation.

"I quite like celebrating rain, cheap canada goose" said Bailey, who has been credited with revitalizing the once-fusty fashion house and boosting its international style credentials. He's also known to create a spectacle using weather elements: Last year, he filled his catwalk with fake snow.

"I like the romance. I quite like the melancholy," he said of the rain.

It wasn't just the rain that was British — much of the detailing on the clothes was, too. There was velvet quilting, corduroy, herringbone wool and tweed caps, riding jackets and skirts, and of course various incarnations of the brand's most famous garment, the trench coat.

Bailey said the collection was a study in merging city style and country living. Bridle leather straps, shearling parkas and the use of quilting were evocative of the horse-riding country lifestyle of the English upper class, while the appearance of cute owl drawings and appliques on some of the collection's T-shirts and sweaters, as well as gold metal fox belt buckles, were a fun and quirky take on the "country" theme.

"I like the idea of celebrating the country, celebrating the town, wholesale canada goose outlet" Bailey said after the show.

A huge range of coats and jackets made up much of the collection. Some were cinched in with candy-coloreauthentic moncler jackets womensd belts with bows, ralph lauren hoody while others had masculine tailored shoulders and large pouches.canada goose parka jackets Cropped, down-filled puffer jackets were paired with tweed ruffled pencil skirts, giving the ladylike look a sporty twist.

The most striking coat was the one Bailey chose for his finale — a quilted, belted creation in deep royal purple, cinched in at the waist but flaring out in a full skirt.

Colors were rich and autumnal, with mustard, burgundy, blackcurrant and forest greens, while wide horizontal stripes in gray, navy and honey kept the look young and vibrant.

"I like it because it's British and I'm British," joked Leah Weller, a 20-year-old singer and model, who added that she was particularly fond of the gold-studded black gloves and clutch bags on show.

Fire officer to give tips along canal

A FIRE service boat safety advisor will be out on the Kennet and Avon Canal from next week, to offer free safety tips and smoke detectors to boaters.

Canal boat safety is a priority for the service, given the amount of waterways in the Wiltshire area.

Safety campaigns have been run along the canal for the past two summers, but this year is the first time the service has visited boaters in the winter.

Boat safety advisor Rob Buckland will visit boat dwellers and users between January 31 and February 7,canada goose jackets to give advice on issues such as smoke alarms, cooking, fuel storage, flares, life jackets and general water safety.

He said: "At this time of the year, those families living aboard their boats will be storing more fuel, so the risk of fire is increased.

"I'll be giving advice on fuel storage, as well as general safety guidance, and I'll also install smoke detectors free of charge,The north facial area along with the Chilliwack Parka by way of canada goose sale cheap. where necessary. We have seen a significant drop in accidental boat fires over the past couple of years, but there was an incident at New Year which showed that the risks are always there."

From Structured Suits to Luxe Sportswear

Check Out The Fall 2012 Trends from Paris and Milan Men's Fashion Week
FashionTV captures the handsome men of the runway – Francisco Lachowski, Andrea Preti, Adrien Sahores, Clement Chabernaud, and even top male supermodel David Gandy at this season's Paris and Milan Men's Fashion Weeks highlighting the Fall/Winter 2012-2013 season.

This is the season for menswear, which typically doesn't have the same buzz as couture or womenswear, to shine! Unlike the bright and eye-popping colors and loose fabrics of Spring/Summer 2012, the Fall/Winter 2012-2013 provided the perfect venue to showcase Fall colors (burgundy, black, gold, copper) and textured Fall/Winter fabrics like wool, tweed, jersey, and velvet.

Men's fashion this season came in the form of two types of looks that were prominent this season. There were the structured suits, of course, which this time were made even more lavish with long coats and textured fabrics to add to the dark, haunting and romantic themes of shows like Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Songzio. While other shows like Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, and Frankie Morrello were more colorful in nature, these casual looks came to the forefront in a more rugged nature with geometric patterns and plaid prints or with loose pants and oversize capes. When the looks weren't rugged,The north facial area along with the Chilliwack Parka by way of canada goose sale cheap. they were sporty—and as sportswear is a common element of Paris and Milan Men's shows, it was nice to see the looks either overtly casual but still containing that sport element or less dressy than the typical overdressed duds.

One of the most fabulous aspects of this season's Paris and Milan Men's shows for Fall/Winter 2012-2013 is that some of the designers focused on themes and stories to describe the pieces that made up their collections. Dolce & Gabbana, for example,,authentic canada goose jackets are available from selective retailers all across the world. were inspired by opera in Palermo in the year 1910.

While the male models were draped in overcoats and lush velvet textures, waiters in tux and tails gave out champagne to the audience. During her show, designer Vivienne Westwood and her husband, who is in charge of the VW menswear line, wanted to call attention to the icebergs in the North and South Pole, and focused her collection on luxe garment wearing polar explorers of the 20th century, complete with icicle makeup in their hair, beards, and on their faces. Other themed shows include the materialistic meets meditative Frankie Morello show and the army and free bird-ridden Dior Homme collection.canada goose jackets

Throughout to the Fall/Winter 2012/2013 season, designer labels like Missoni, Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada, and Cavalli honed in on trends like colorful geometric patterns on jackets and sweaters, leather and wool for long coats, and suits with lavish prints, like the suits found at Jean Paul Gaultier and Moschino (both brick patterns!), and loud colors like Roberto Cavalli.

FashionTV brings you the latest trends and themes of all the top menswear runway shows during Paris and Milan Men Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012-2013.

All good things come to an end

As an audience in Milan was applauding the finale of their D&G line show last September, designer duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were putting the final touches to a press release that would announce its closure after 17 years.

"We have a lot of new projects to start in the same way as many years ago, when D&G was born," they said in the statement released immediately after the event, much to the surprise of an industry that had come to love the pair's more blinged-up, youthful line.Men's ralph lauren hoody is the the necessary coat for any handsome man in both spring ang autumn . "D&G will become part of Dolce & Gabbana [their mainline range], giving even more strength and energy to our collections."

But as the pieces from that final spring/summer 2012 collection arrive in stores this month, there will be plenty of shoppers disappointed by the news that the label is no more. The north facial area along with the Chilliwack Parka by way of canada goose sale cheap.

Dolce & Gabbana's D&G range encapsulated all the wit and hyperbole of the pair's main label, but at a fraction of the price, and bore all the brash bravura and glamorous gusto that the stereotypically loud and proud Italian fashion industry is known for. From logo-tastic denim for the conspicuous consumer to short and skimpy cocktail dresses and sex-kitten winter knits, D&G was clever and cartoonish, eye-catching and immediate.

"D&G was something of a fashion journalist's dream," says Alex Fury, fashion director of SHOWstudio.com. "A single theme,Shop popular stores to find moncler outerwear on sale. served straight-up with no muss or fuss. Colour, glitz, lots of bling, plenty of logos, too much shredded denim. That kind of energy and exuberance really feels as if that's what the best of Italian fashion is all about."

Stefano Gabbana says of his main label: "For us, Dolce & Gabbana is the dream. Our roots. Dolce & Gabbana is the Mediterranean, Sicily..."

"While D&G represents what we live now," finishes Domenico Dolce. "Very much influenced by music and by the street. The collections did share some elements, although they were two separate worlds which started to become closer."

What the lines have in common is a similarly irreverent treatment of icons and the popular myths around femininity: while the mainline has reflected everyone from glamorous widows to wide-eyed ingénues, the D&G line once took Queen Elizabeth II as its inspiration, with models in silk headscarves and long tartan skirts. It was quite a departure from the usual clubbers' vibe but somehow entirely fitting according to the designers' flamboyant minds.

"D&G changed a lot throughout the seasons," continues Gabbana. "When we launched it in 1994, fashion, the economy, everything was quite different from today. People wanted fun things,Do you need any sell canada goose winter jackets supply and demand information? a kind of fashion that would be a crossover of styles and inspirations, with no age restrictions. D&G allowed us to free our creativity in a completely different way compared to Dolce & Gabbana."

Design signatures such as ocelot prints, graffiti tags, gold chains and hyper embellishment were not so much a by-word for extreme glamour as a billboard advertisement for it, and the final collection stands a joyous synecdoche for a label at which too much was just enough. For its swansong, models dressed in garments made from the twisting, pinning, knotting and ruching of classic foulard scarves, printed with everything from psychedelic paisley to porcelain and nautical emblems, strutted along the catwalk to a remixed soundtrack of Prince's "Kiss" and James Brown's "Sex Machine". High camp indeed.

"Corsetry dresses, lace, ocelot and, of course, scarf prints are incredibly iconic to the brand," says die-hard D&G fan Lauren Stevenson, who is head of communications at My-wardrobe.com – where an exclusive capsule of D&G pieces has just launched, in celebration of its final collection. "Every season, they feature these elements within the collection, which give you a chance to buy into classic D&G pieces with a twist of the trends of the season... The panic is starting to set in."

The designers plan to assume the D&G spirit into their mainline label, meaning that prices are higher and pieces perhaps less overstated, but they are keen to promote the closure of their second line as a beginning rather than an end.

"What we have been trying to do is to introduce the young generation to the sartorial soul of Dolce & Gabbana," explains Stefano Gabbana. "Next to the classic signature jackets and trousers you now find new shapes which are close to the D&G spirit, yet speaking the Dolce & Gabbana language."

"The D&G logo will not disappear," Domenico Dolce assures the insignia's fans. "We did show on the Dolce & Gabbana men's runway belts and T-shirts bearing the D&G logo.canada goose jackets This is just the first season – in the future this merging will be more clear."

And the message too is clear: D&G has grown up. And a generation of shoppers will proudly watch as it takes its first steps as a new concept at the Milan womenswear shows next month.
