man missing since his boat capsized in the Choctawhatchee Bay Monday was found
Sunday morning.
A man passing by in a boat called 911 at about 9:10 a.m. after he spotted the body in the middle of the bay about three miles west of the Clyde B. It was identified as Robert Shawn Gregory, the 41-year-old man whom authorities had been scouring the bay for all week.
Gregory and his nephew, Tyler Carpenter, 18, went out gigging for flounder under an almost-full moon shortly before 1 a.m. Monday. At some point their 14-foot boat began to take on water and flipped, tossing both men into the water.
They could locate only one life jacket and it was given to Carpenter, allowing him to swim to safety, according to Stan Kirkland, a spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
A motorist passing on U.S. 331 spotted Carpenter about 7 a.m. Monday. He was clinging to the pilings of the bridge and yelling for help.
Later that day, search and rescue teams found the boat partially sunk on the northeast side of the bridge. It had drifted some distance from where it actually flipped, Kirkland said.

They pulled the body from the middle of the bay north of County Road 393, she said.
“It's a sad thing, but the family has some closure now at least,” Ammons said.
