Think of the silhouette as "a pillar that grows in volume as you go up," says Vancouver stylist Luisa Rino.
Rino headed to The Bay, where she styled the coat two ways: with skinny jeans and a sweater; and with a fitted sweater dress and wide belt on top of the coat.
"People always ask: 'If I add a belt, what do I do with it after, when I take it off?' " says Rino.
"You just place it in your purse - belts roll up quite nicely. The same way you put your gloves in your bag, you put your belt in your bag."
The coat comes in many variations, making it an ageless item, but its key characteristic is the drooped shoulder and batwing sleeve.
