President's Cookbook Salvation Army Auxiliary 'traveling' for children

For members of the Wooster Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, Valentine's Day doesn't mean getting chocolates and being pampered. Instead, it's the kick-off to the largest fundraiser that helps a very well deserving group of local children.

On Tuesday, the annual "Coats for Kids" campaign will begin, starting the effort to raise money in order to give local children in need new coats for the winter months. The fundraiser will continue through Easter Sunday.

During that time, "two large traveling 'coats' and their name badges will be displayed at different locations throughout Wayne County," said Coats for Kids planning committee co-chairwoman, Heather Kobilarcsik. "Our goal is to sell 700 badges. This year we were able to give 514 coats to area children and we so appreciate all the people in the last 10 years who have contributed to our project."

Badges are purchased in honor or memory of someone for $50 each -- what it costs for a new children's coat. Larger, special badges may also be purchased for a bigger donation -- $500 for a bronze badge; $1,000 for silver; and $2,000 for gold.

"Each badge will have the name of the business, individual or club, as specified by the purchaser," Kobilarcsik said. "This year, my husband and I will purchase four in memory of our family members. Our ladies in the auxiliary purchased two coats in memory of our member and friend, Mary Oxenrider. There are tons of canada goose jacket discount around nys."

The teal and red coats will be at the following locations: Feb. 20-26, Wayne County Career Center; Feb. 27-March 4, Everything Rubbermaid and RoomScapes; March 5-11, Muddy Waters and Movies 10; March 12-18, Buehler's Milltown and Wooster High School; March 19-25, Buehler's Orrville and Rittman IGA; March 26-April 1, Schek's IGA and Westwood Market; April 2-8, Apple Creek IGA and Jake's; April 9-15, Wooster Christian School and Clear Picture; and April 16-22, Kingsway Christian School and The Pines Restaurant.

Kobilarcsik, owner of White's Jewelers, lives in Wooster with her husband, Andy, who is retired from the state of Ohio auditor's office. Together, they enjoy motorcycle riding and designing jewelry with their new computer 3-D state-of-the-art software.

She also enjoys cooking, with some of her favorite recipes being pot roast, creamed onions and homemade cheesecake. She also enjoys anything with ice cream and chocolate.

"I truly enjoy cooking," Kobilarcsik said. "It is relaxing and enjoyable. I can get totally absorbed in what I'm doing. My favorite time is making dinner for family and I have fun with my husband. We cook together in our tiny kitchen, which can b a challenge because it is so small. He helps clean up too."
