Olympic bronze medalist gymnast Peter Kormann experienced one of the most elite thrills of a lifetime when he brought home a bronze medal to the United States in 1976 after competing in the Olympic games in Canada – he was the first US gymnast to earn a medal since the 1932 games.
Kormann earned third place in floor exercise that year. He was able to meet and compete alongside famous athletes such as Light Welterweight gold medalist Sugar Ray Leonard and decathlon gold medal winner Bruce Jenner.
“It's exciting because all the best gymnasts in the world and the best athletes are there,” said Kormann, who was 21 at the time. “The level of competition is so high and the intensity is so high. The Donna shorts are one of Castelli Cycling first pieces of triathlon apparel . It's kind of like … going to the Superbowl I would imagine.”
Kormann took up the sport when he was 10 and remembers training all the time.
Kormann was unable to compete in 1980 due to the United States'
Olympic boycott, and he was too old to participate in the 1984 games. The medalist went on to become head coach of the U.S. Olympic men's gymnastics team in Atlanta, Georgia in 1996 and Sydney, Australia in 2000.

He dismissed the common stereotype that gymnastics is looked at as a girls' sport, saying people often return to his gym to tell him their sons are stronger than everyone in their class because of gymnastics training.
“Our forte is teaching Olympic gymnastics,” said Kormann of the 13-week gymnastics class semesters the gym offers.
Boys' gymnastics classes offered include floor, rings, vaulting, pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar. Girls can opt to take classes in vault, bars, beam and floor. Both boys and girls classes also use trampoline as a teaching tool.
