When Olivia Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, the first person she thought of was everybody else.

Sharing her experience as a 19-year breast cancer survivor is what brought Newton-John to Carmen's Banquet Centre on Monday. She was the keynote speaker at a fundraiser for the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre — an event that sold more than 900 tickets, according to Michael Schwenger, chair of the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation board of directors.
By 6:30 p.m., attendees filled the lobby of Carmen's, standing shoulder to shoulder, dressed in sequins and suits and, in one case, a pink satin jacket with the words “Pink Lady” in black script across the back.
